I've only seen bad things about it Sup Forums.

Is it actually good? Is Sup Forums being contrarian as always?

3rd favorite movie of 2016

why does she look so autistic here

>r9k gets revenge on a roastie: the movie

Reminder jake gyllenhaals character is dead the whole time, this is why he didn't show up and the story was all in her head because she was so sleep deprived and disappointed in herself for being a junk artist

I saw it at TIFF and Tom Ford did a Q&A afterwards where he unambiguously stated that Gyllenhaal didn't show up as a fuck you to his ex.

This is no where in the movie. You're talking out your ass.

>she ruins his life
>I know I'll invite her to dinner and not show up lol that will show her
Ford is a hack

t. clueless pleb

Doing that after having her read something that's a thinly veiled allegory for their relationship was pretty savage. The sorry state of her life only compounds it.

Why did he write in that story that he shot himself in the stomach? Because he shot himself in real life dumb fuckers

Because as far as Susan's concerned he is dead, because he's never going to be a part of her life again.

Michael and Jake are /our guys/

Loved it - right there with Handmaiden as my favorite of 2016.

i liked the focus on redheads

I wish I could be a writer.

Nice contrast with the couch the bodies are found on, too.

Gyllenhaal is shit and a product of Jew nepotism

Is that Amy?
BRAHH

heres the story daughter

The implication being that her in bed naked with that man is how her mother's imagining her while on the phone.

>husband cheating on her
>her art gallery stuff is trash
>obese women dancing
>text of "REVENGE" as a painting
>ex-husband sends a book
>it's genuinely moving and devastating unlike the shit art she has to curate for 20 years
>try to reconnect
>"Fuck you"

it's pretty fucked up desu

this

along with wtf i hate republicans

I mean... I can see that the manuscript is clearly a metaphor for what he's been through; losing his wife and kid, but some things I can't match with real life. Like, what exactly was the revenge? Not showing up for dinner? Who's Ray's real life equivalent? Who's Bobby's?

>republican MILF proven right in the end
>abortion is seen as a sin
>story Jake Gyllenhaal gets his family raped and killed because he doesn't have a gun

makes your neurons jingle

he made her feel like shit by inventing the tragic husband character, then when she tries to reconcile with irl Jake he told her to fuck off

it just happened to work double because her career is a sham and her current husband is cheating on her

This a legit plebfilter along with OGF

Kino

>ok but how do we make sure everyone knows what's up?
>hmmm...

Don't ever compare that trash to NA ever again.

Spoken like a true pleb, its a shame

It's good.

Because even through the huge effort of writing his story describing the way he felt after what she did to him, he still felt empty at the end and wouldn't be the same. Probably a bit angry at himself for how he was in the past and his relationship with the girl, deciding to move on completely by standing her up.

precisely this.

>she cheats on him
>aborts their baby behind his back
>years later, her personal life is in ruins
> he actually writes a successful novel despite her never believing in him
>sends it to her
>it strikes a chord with her
>she hopes to be able to mend the relationship by meeting up
>he stands her up as the icing on the "fuck you" cake

ahhh

That's Tom Ford hyperbole hitting modern film that tries to imitate high class, artsy, or other hipster indie shit by being subtle and weird, but it's not either of those things and obvious.

I mean even Amy's career, the opening sequence of fat women, and the whole "real" world is full of fake and plastic people with no real life. It's dull, and tryhard alternative just like modern art and films.

That's why Tom Ford chose to make two movies, with one inside the other to compare the stories and themes, but also contrast real storymaking and art to this new age shit.

liberal propaganda

Vagina man was the funniest thing ever.

Enjoyed it
Thought the ending was fucking harsh but that's the point

It's weak. The novel within the movie is bland and derivative like all "novels within movies". If I wanted to watch a Peckinpah/Schrader ripoff I'd watch some new Abel Ferrara movies.

Good but overrated.

His revenge was showing her empty existence in her face. He pursued his passion and made something beautiful out of the pain she'd caused him during a time in their relationship where she did some really fucked up things towards him, because she saw him as a hopeless romantic who'd never amount to anything and decided to get dick from a Chad who was "somebody", basically becoming her own mother.

Ray is a hypermasculine psychopath and represents all the stuff Edward was too "weak" to handle, i.e. getting a 'real' career, setting up a life for him and Susan that was to her satisfaction, etc, resulting in the loss of both the relationship and their child.

Bobby could potentially be representative of the tenacity with which he pursued his writing, to prove that he'd one day become an accomplished artist and amount to anything worthwhile, prove that he isn't "weak".

I liked it a lot. Though the summaries I read about the film were misleading, as well as the poster. Made it seem like the "real world" was going to turn into a thriller where the ex-husband stalks her. Instead it was a much more introverted film, which I had no problem with.

It's mediocre. If it hasn't peeked your interest on what you've seen so far, avoid it.

Sup Forums liked it.

Tom Ford actually said that he wasnt sure of adding that part in because he was scared it was too obvious

Nice acting, direction and cinematography with a soap opera script that treats you like a moron.

Very good misogynist revenge porn. Moral of the story is: don't be a fucking beta cuck; progressives are narcissistic, heartless scumbags.
