goodfellas is his only movie that doesnt bore me to tears

Watch After Hours

I don't know how someone could get bored watching Wolf of Wallstreet, but okay.

Agree OP, but Scorsese has several masterpieces.

Silence was a stunning masterpiece imo

When did Reddit decide it was hip to hate Scorcese and come post about it here?

Boxcar Bertha

>generic gangster movie
>masterpiece

lol

>t. pleb

Taxi Driver is his masterpiece.

I never quite liked Goodfellas. The pacing is too fast. The only other movie I've seen that bothers me this way is Raising Arizona

Out.

No one ever acknowledges this movie. Did everyone in the world hate it?

I swear I'm not trying to be intentionally obscure or contrarian, I just think it's fucking excellent and I wish people would mention it 1/10th as often as they do Taxi Driver or Goodfellas or Gangs of New York

/thread

The flashbacks of dead patients were really corny, at least in the way they were executed, and they were a major part of the film. Otherwise it's very good, but it doesn't beat Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, etc

He, himself, acknowledged Mean Streets as his favorite film.

what's King of Comedy like, its one of the few Scorceses I've yet to see

I'm watching Goodfellas on AMC right now too

It's like Taxi Driver. The payout is anti Taxi Driver though. It's a big punchline and it's wonderful. IMO it's a better movie and better performance.

It's a weird movie, it's kind of tough to describe the tone. Basically a very dark showbiz satire about a really tenacious loser trying to become a professional standup comic by making connections with famous people. I like it a lot, but I can see why it's not quite as popular as some of Scorsese's other films, it's a bizarre film that's pretty uncomfortable to watch in many parts.

It's one of the best performances of De Niro's career though, he's funny and sad and scary at the same time. It's definitely worth seeing

Raging Bull

His best movie is bringing out the dead, legit no problems or complaints

The Departed is best.

No shit, it literally won Best Picture. So it must be.

sounds cool

thanks niggas

Its a sleeper classic and a good companion piece to taxi driver. Basically rainy day or insomnia core.

Hopefully his next will be lighter, since it's mainly set in the fifties and seventies

Casino's not bad either, it's just unremittingly bleak when you're not laughing at the characters

Casino is an exhausting film to watch, it's just cranked up to eleven in every possible way

Goodfellas is the greatest movie ever made.

Mean Streets to be honest

I agree

Pesci's character is a live wire, a bit like Hoffa in The Irishman's script, but you watch it with subtitles and you hear some great lines. Especially the part about 'pink veal'...

This film is also jam-packed with paintings, there is more art on the walls than Eyes Wide Shut. Pesci's best part is when he's stashing shit like Alex in ACO.

I love the shot composition, but we never get a truly geographic sense of the casino's layout with lots of long takes from floor to floor.

The architecture is used nicely however, especially when it reflects mirrored images of Ginger and Sam.

This is a great comedic role.

Stone's performance here makes me think Wendi McLendon-Covey would be a good fit for Irene Sheeran.

>Plebfellas with Ray 'absolute dogshit' Liotta
Casino is his Magnus Opus

I love it, great atmosphere

You can spot a lot of great artifacts in Casino, it's got more hidden treasures than The Godfather does.

Gangs of New York close thread

The anecdotes with Rothstein are pretty funny too (blueberry muffins, European dancers, etc.). I like they head out to Kansas to drop a bag off now and again.

My second favorite besides GoNY. Aviator is #3

possibly my favourite shot from Casino

"why is she four pounds over?"

who else here /mean streets/ ?

Completely agree. Casino is flawless.

>The Aviator finally getting some love
My nigga. I think it's the best film he did with Di Caprio, I've caught this movie on TV a few times and I always end up watching to the end

So many shots that you could frame.

This woman! Sometimes these peripheral characters outside the mob and the police are the most damaging.
