I'm sure you guys already know this and I'm and absolute noob but I'm going to say it any way since it's helped me a lot. If you're a lower first division/second division side (for me it was a Championship side but I'm sure it would work with other leagues as well), I highly suggest looking at the transfer summaries in/out of big sides like Spurs, Man U, or City. It'll show everyone they let leave on contract expiry, which is usually youngsters not good enough for an elite side but they are easy to snap up and really bolster the squad. I got a couple 3*CA 4*PA squad players for peanuts
