Are Russians really THIS dumb? Or are they THIS scared of brits? How do you trade away THIS literally pennies? Wtf is going on here?

8 million was lot of money back in the 19th century. Plus Alaska was too far away from European Russia (where majority of the population lives) to manage.

The land is suposedly cursed, "whosoever owns it must give up his wife to a darker skinned man" Russians are ridiculously superstitious.

Why are Russians so greedy they hold lands they dont use, cant use?

Russia even can't manage its Far East properly. Soviets filled it with prisoners because nobody wanted to live so far from the civilization in a shitty climate.

>suposedly cursed
Like Mexican drinking water?

Russia believed that future British incursions via Canada would lose them a key piece of land to a geopolitical rival, which America wasn't. Hence, selling a piece of land they couldn't defend and couldn't afford to develop to a country that would cockblock the UK from moving closer to Russia's Eastern flank was a savvy move.

Siberia has natural resources. Otherwise Russia would have gotten rid of it long time ago.

>so far from the civilization in a shitty climate.
The climate is great in lower latitudes and they could always bring civilization to there.

Yup, only affects foreigners. The Southwest was suposedly cursed as well but I'm sure you haven't noticed anything wrong there.

Nope its pretty safe compared to its foreign counterpart.

Drinking water is better too. :3

>The climate is great in lower latitudes and they could always bring civilization to there.
It's the coldest place on the Earth on the left (Sakha)
and fucking taiga full of encephalitis ticks on the right (Khabarovsk).

I guess you're right, you people have bulldozed oover enough Indian graveyards you would now be a fat and stupid nation if there was any truth to superstition.

>you people have bulldozed oover enough Indian graveyards
>coming from the country that bulldozed over some of the largest ancient structures in the Americas

>taiga full of encephalitis ticks on the right
Taiga sweeps across the entire North of the globe. Also we have viscous ticks in the US, we still brought life to those lands.

It would have made the Cold War a lot more interesting if they hadn't sold it. Also, I could finally take a road trip to Russia.

Leafs are the reason Russians had to freak out and sell a good piece of land. Everyone knows Brits are in control of Canada.

You have no idea what are you talking about. Check the climate tables.

>You have no idea what are you talking about.
You dont even know where the area is lol

*whipping sound*

Even the Americans were worried at the time of purchase calling it a waste of money and "A purchase of snow" until in discoveries of major gold deposits in 1896. Decades later, huge oil reserves were found also.

But as far as Russians were concerned, it was land they didnt need because trade was dwindling nor could they defend it. Russia had more than enough strategic depth with Siberia to fall back on and at the time, had enough territory to the east and south of Moscow to feel secure. For them it was easy money.

We are talking about specific region, no the whole taiga biome.

Whatever, arguing with US American about geography is futile.

>Spanish rape baby accusing others of bulldozing Indian graveyards

>tfw we refused to sell greenland to the us for 100 million dollars

>We are talking about specific region, no the whole taiga biome.
>Its literally all the same region
Good try, its actually well suited for inhabitants and climate is great.

>tfw your country is too broke to be a big-time mover and shaker.

They sold it so the British couldn't steal the place down the road.
