It effectively raped and consumed local cultures, replacing them with 6th-7th century Arabian culture, which promoted marriage between cousins and polygyny. If Islam had never crawled forth from the fetid imagination of an Arabian warlord, the entire middle east would be a patchwork of different cultures, with different values and diverse genetics.
