Why are Germans so much against nuclear energy, hydraulic fracturing and GMO foods? The scientific consensus overwhelmingly support all three things.

How can such a smart people be so irrational and act against their own interests?

Lots of leftists in Germany, that's why

populism.
When Fukushima happened, Merkel killed 2 birds with one stone, by taking the green parties only political point away from them and getting their voters.

hydraulic fracturing is stupid and permanently damages the environment. period. GMO foods are ebil because muh local farmers.

Sage.

Unfortunately they force their stupid Kraut regulations and fear-mongering on the rest of the EU.

Nuclear energy is extremely dangerous. Also what do with the waste? Sorry, but I do not want to risk the life of millions of Germans when a tsunami happens to hit one of the nuclear power plants.

>Unfortunately they force their stupid Kraut regulations and fear-mongering on the rest of the EU.

Triggered? :^)

>hydraulic fracturing is stupid and permanently damages the environment

It is pretty safe and can be done more safe.

>Sorry, but I do not want to risk the life of millions of Germans when a tsunami happens to hit one of the nuclear power plants.

This. My county actually had a petition for a referendum to make our plants tsunami proof.

Fortunately, Bavaria is a very rich state so we can easily afford it if it passes.

as with every "why is germany so cucked" thread, the answer is the same. 70 years of complete leftist media domination left the nation open to at-will indoctrination.
these days, emotional knee-jerk reactions decide the political positions of germans. nothing else. and when it comes to nuclear power, these are the common associations that the media feeds to the people:
>green glowing toxic radiation
>hiroshima and nagasaki
>chernobyl
>fukushima
>disfigured tumor babies
>ultra dangerous waste that will make the entire planet uninhabitable for a gorillion years
>DANGER
>DEATH
>FEAR

nobody ever actually investigates these points and bothers to do a proper cost/benefit/risk analysis. it's all just cheap emotional propaganda, and it works.

>what to do with the waste
>german tsunami

You know nothing about nuclear energy. Nuclear is the future. It's the only thing that can bridge the gap between hydrocarbon fuels and high efficiency solar energy.

>Bavaria
>tsunami proof

Ever heard of the phrase "better safe than sorry"?

This is why you fail, Denmark.

Also small-water can easily provide cooling for nuclear power. No need to place near Tsunami beach.

that's a big tsunami

Jewish science proves nothing

no it's totally not. you permanently intoxicate the soil, groundwater and the fauna. Even if you have "safe" barriers around the area where you're fracking, the entire area erodes.

>scientific consensus

scientific consensus like, when amalgam or asbestos was legal for decades when they finally realized is fuckin carcinogenic.

scientific consensus = worthless opinion based on current politics or coward scientist drones

genau

>scientific consensus like, when amalgam or asbestos was legal for decades

That was a political (i.e. corporate) consensus, not a scientific one.

>cheap energy for the moment, fucks your shit up in the long run
>idk
>(((GMO))) eat your modified chemical foods, goyim

also

>(((scientific consensus)))
>look at all these people with lab coats we paid to tell you this is good, goyim. It's the right thing

That we are switching off our nuclear powerplants is stupid yeah, all of our neighbour countrys have them at our border, so we are not really decreasing the risk because if any of theirs blows up, we are fucked anyway.
The entire EU should work towards cold fusion and screw the "green" electricy.
The hydraulic fracturing on the other hand should not be allowed.
It damages the enviroment heavily and for a very long time, it could make our groundwater unusable, who ever thinks its a good idea to pump tons of highly toxic chemicals in to the ground you depend off, grow food, take water from is just stupid as hell.

>scientific
>consensus

you know how i know you're fucking retarded?

>hydraulic fracturing

Germany does this since 1961. You can use water for fracturing.

>hydraulic fracturing

When will man stop playing God?

dummkopf

>german tsunami

>When will man stop playing God?

this

>hasn't heard of thorium yet

You'll find the cold war rhetoric lacking in the face of a nuclear resource that doesn't yield materials fit for arms production, only emits alpha radiation (too weak to penetrate the skin) and cannot meltdown thanks to much cooler performance.

If only we had the money to scale it up for commercial exploitation.

>The scientific consensus overwhelmingly support all three things.
Let's see here
- nuclear power
Three Mile Island, Tchernobyl, Fukushima
- fracking
burning poisoned tap water in the US plus gas companies realizing fracturing renders only 10% of the estimated amounts
- GMO
There's empirical evidence that links bees dying in masses to Monsanto products

So all that stuff probably costs more in the long run than it saves in costs.

Real mature, buddy. Real mature.

yeah it's better to shut down our nuclear power plants and import electricity from the czech who build their nuclear plants 20km near the border to german with their high security standards. makes a lot of sense afterall nuclear fallout stops at the borders of our country because we dont like it here.

The two tend to go hand in hand. If asbestos is the cheapest solution, of course there will be a boatload of scientists funded by the property developers proclaiming it safer than jelly babies.

>if 3+3 is less than 10 surely 8+8 is less than 10 as well

>scientists funded by the property developers

Those aren't scientists then, they are degenerate niggeragents of SATAN.

>tfw studying biotechnology at university
>Learning about GM crops; how they're made, their benefits and drawbacks, etc
>Leftist hippies are the major demographic rejecting them because they're "unnatural and full of chemicals"
>Ignoring the fact that GM crops are better for the environment and even health as they require very few pesticides

Unsurprisingly Europe is the only region in the world that will pretty much not touch anything labelled GMO. Fucking pussies have apparently forgotten what hunger is.

>"muh environment" fags object to the use of the most efficient energy sources of oil and natural gas for being dirty
>object to nuclear even though it's completely clean

WHAT THE FUCK DO THESE PEOPLE WANT? I swear to god they just want us all to live as the amish.

Because the Jews want to use high energy costs to destroy the centuries old Mittelstrand and impoverish Germanics forever.

I don't have a problem with GMOs.
I do have a problem with one of the first ingredients on the list for many products being sugar or a derivative.

>hydraulic fracturing and GMO foods
Fracking is bad around populated areas.
GMOs are not bad per say, but the way they are created makes some nasty shit. They usually mix things to make them more sellable, but that way lower their quality.

With all the social propaganda that people in this country fall for, it shouldn't surprise you that we fall for the ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((greeen))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) agenda

>Three Mile Island, Tchernobyl, Fukushima
all three are old-ass reactors that measure up to modern safety standards.

>fracking
never claimed to be environmentally friendly by anyone, it's just the lesser of two evils, the other evil is dependence on oil from terror-sponsoring states.

>There's empirical evidence that links bees dying in masses to Monsanto products
That's not caused by GMO, you cunt, but some GMO is used to increase plant tolerance of pesticides, and that's what kills bees, not the GMO plants.

nature = good
destroying people = bad

just because the 'green party' wants both doesn't mean both are bad

nuclear energy is not completely clean.
The necluear waste must be stored safe as fuck for what was it? 40.000 years?
Apparently germany has not a single place that could be safe for that amount of time, we are shoving this shit into the ground and hope for the best, there has been a huge eclat because many barrels have been confirmed to be in a very bad shape or are leaking already.
That means it could happen at some point that all of this stuff could escape in to the enviroment and fuck us all.

Wtf?

Germans are really against nuclear energy?

Doesn't France next door produce the highest proportion of energy by nuclear in the world?

You don't want hydrocarbons and you don't want nuclear. Any kind of actually realistic and usable energy source, you fags object to.

Shit, leftists even object to hydroelectric dams because "MUH DESTRUCTION OF HABITATS". There's no winning with you people

So I'll ask again. What do you want?

>against nuclear energy

German scientists are among the best of nuclear research. Several test-reactors are currently running und just last year merkel herself activated a new fusion reactor.

The germans aren´t against this technology, rather they 1) want something more complicated and technological sophisticated and 2) don´t want it in their front garden

Pay other countries to take it, I know Australia receives a lot of nuclear waste from other countries and then buries it all in a desert somewhere.

There's also progress towards recycling nuclear waste.

> More complicated and technologically sophisticated

More often than not the two are contradictory.

>The necluear waste must be stored safe as fuck for what was it? 40.000 years?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_transmutation#Artificial_transmutation_of_nuclear_waste

>Oh no the soil is really messed and that sand moves 1 meter from where it was previously, oh no

>t. knows nothing about the actual risks of nuclear energy in the west

>The necluear waste must be stored safe as fuck for what was it? 40.000 years?
this shit is blown vastly out of proportion by the media. all this drama about "finding a suitable storage site" is just because every state is trying to put the waste in some other state's territory.

contrary to popular belief, this waste isn't some kind of chernobyl reactor shit that will immediately give cancer to everything within a 3 mile radius. plenty of industrial chemicals are more dangerous than nuclear waste. the big theoretical danger is just the fact that certain parts of the waste can be reprocessed into fissile material, which can then be used to construct nuclear weapons. that's why the security is so high - people are paranoid about some terrorist group or some foreign government getting their hands on that shit. the stuff itself is pretty tame, and certainly does not warrant the kind of hysteria that it's causing here.

Are you brain damaged or something?

75%. We also export lots of it. No regrets here, nuclear is awesome and we live in the countries with less seism (and the biggest ones are small comparing to japan). We also have like no risk of tsunami and whatnot... It would be hands on retarded not do use nuclear in those conditions. That allowed to make us leaders in the fields and we're researching very strongly fusion too. This is the future and not meme sun or wind energy that you can't rely on.

did you even bother to counterargue accordingly to the facts he listed, or are you just an incapalbe of analysing facts

I had a huge dose of respect for Finns.
You just made it a bit smaller.

And even if you're careful about storing it it's still less expansive than wind or solar or whatnot...

>GMO
Potentially fantastic, problem is that they manipulate them so that the poor farmers have to buy new seeds all the time. Other than that, being against GMOs on principle is retared.

>Nuclear energy
Not only nuclear plants, but also large transport ships should be running on nuclear power. ALL the cars let out very little CO2 compared to the transport ships.

Con; waste can be used for nuclear weapons.

Governments should invest heavily on Thorium.

The danish have no clue on how to handle dangerous stuff, just look at the case of Pallas, a burning vessel of their coast. We had to take care of it, they just ignored it.

You're missing the point. We need to use some form of energy. And he's been shitting on literally every type of efficient and usable energy source.

It's not a question of whether something in particular is good or bad. It's a question of which is the best to use. You can't just say X, Y, and Z are all bad and therefore we shouldn't use energy at all.

>Also what do with the waste?
The leftover Uranium you can give em to Russia, they have breeder reactors that can make even more fissile material.

No they don't.

I wikipedia'd 'Enviromental Impact of Shipping' and it came up with a figure of about 2% global CO2 emissions as a result.

>large transport ships should be running on nuclear power

>terrorists board and take over nuclear freighter
>RIP

nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers can use nuclear reactors because they're fucking full of military personnel, and either sit at the bottom of the ocean all the time or have massive naval escorts (carriers) around them. no pirate/terrorist operation can capture these.

but civilian ships? hell fucking no. no. no.

>fucks your shit up in the long run
How? Nuclear energy cost goes down with time. It has the fewest deaths per terawatt of all energy sources. And every 1000 kg of uranium consume for production saves 1 T of CO2 emissions.

and now whats your opinon on nuclear enery? would you like to swing to less dangerous sources or stick to nuclear reactors until all the others nations stop with the nuclear energy?

>Nuclear Energy
Tschernobyl and Fukushima happend.

>hydraulic fracturing
Toxinating the ground for profit is pretty stupid.

>GMO foods
And only buy copyrighted seeds from american companies when the long time exposure on the human body by GMO food is still to be observed as harmful/not harmful?

And I still want muslims and jews to die.
You can care about the enviroment, local farms and the general health of people and still hate mudslimes. Keep Germany as beautiful as it is. Ruhrpott was a mistake.

Hmm. I also learned there are only about 6,000 large container ships, although it doesn't say if that's the total everywhere or at just sea at any given time.

Either way, fewer than I expected. The more you know.

>cold fusion
For the moment is a meme. Thorium power plants on molten salt reactors is probably the best alternative

Because Merkel is green politician at this point

>>(((GMO))) eat your modified chemical foods, goyim

Literally everything is a fucking GMO you nigger tier retard

Hmm, there are loads of articles that says that 15-16 of the most polluting ships POLLUTE more than all the cars. So I probably took CO2 out of my ass. They still let out a massive amount of CO2 considering the numbers though.

Thorium meme

I dunno about the others, but our opposition to nuclear is fueled by our complete unwillingness to be economically dependent on Canada and Australia. They mine most of the world's uranium supply. We'd rather be dependent on Russian gas.

This nigger knows what's up.
He is my nigger.

>Literally everything is a fucking GMO you nigger tier retard

At least learn what GMO stands for before making a fool of yourself.

Many of the germans do want nuclear energy, otherwise they would've been shut down entirely if 100% of us would want that.
An there are other ways to win energy, by wind, by water, by the sun etc.
Iam not a big fan of the "green" energy my self, but if they can replace at least the power plants that use things like coal or oil than its a huge win.
I personally think the best compromise would be "green" power plants like the ones i mentioned already and nuclear power plants and turn off all the "dirty" ones.
It would be more safe and more clean at the same time.
Sadly "green" energy causes higher costs that we have to pay.
So far the only real solution for the worlds energy problem is the cold fusion, but thats far away or might never be accomplished.

And to the "fracking" thing: its just stupid for me, period.
To the GMO stuff I don't have a real opinion, i simply don't really know anythign about it.
But i'd stick to the saying "better safe then sorry"

Nuclear waste maybe able to be a source of energy in the future

>Genetically modified organism

Or are you saying everything you eat has been cloned from 1 non modified organism?

You don't even know how GMOs work, do you?

But he's right. Humans have been practicing genetic engineering through selective breeding for as long as agriculture's been around. All modern crops grown in any significant amount have been engineered for certain traits.

>less dangerous source
nigger are you dumb?
see it doesn't get any less dangerous than nuclear.
nuclear is also the most climate-friendly AND the most reliable energy source that exists.

nuclear being some kind of dangerous scifi dystopian horror tech is a fucking media meme.
literally THE ENTIRE WORLD runs on nuclear. all of europe, japan, the USA, and several other countries run on nuclear.
all the nuclear accidents and disasters combined are a tiny, insignificant footnote when you realize just how much nuclear power is used.

also
>chernobyl
>fucking graphite moderated soviet shit reactors, combined with massive commie retardation on behalf of the staff

>fukushima
>fucking earthquake plus tsunami

neither of those events are even remotely comparable to the plants we have in germany.

>selective breeding is equal to direct genetic modification
what

The worst thing about Fukushima is they built the plant at the bottom of a cliff while they could have built it slightly higher on another plateau. In fact it was highly recommended.

But no, japs are retarded so they didn't do it...

>Implying that genetic modifications are equal to genetic modifications
what

honestly i've never heared of them, so i can't say anything about it, i'll get some information about it.

the tools are different, the outcome is the same
dna is dna. base pairs are base pairs. it doesnt matter whether a specific sequence of base pairs was created vie spontaneous mutation or via laboratory manipulation. the result is indistinguishable.

Uh, yes? Technology is not limited to blinky lights and humming computers. It takes time, but there's no doubt modern crops are genetically different from specimens found in the wild, if they exist at all.

>The danish have no clue on how to handle dangerous stuff

Very true. They actually need constant adult supervision.

I'm glad Germany is there to look after them.

China has an operational one. Thorium is cheaper to mine, more abundant than uranium and produces fewer waste. On top of that ot can operate on a molten salt reactor, that is way safer than the high pressure ones that is needed for uranium to work.

Kek, Norway have to send shitloads of money to Russia, to make them clean up their mess in the north

By the way,if a Chernobyl happened every year, still fewer people would die, than from coal polution. Nuclear energy being dangerous is a forced meme

The german people has been completely demoralized and brainwashed by the holocaust industrial-guilt complex that they try their hardest to be the most progressive country in the world.

I mean, Merkel is supposed to be "right wing" for fuck's sake.

>Germans
>against nuclear energy
The educated and honest ones aren't.
Libfag retards and Jews who want to destroy our economy however keep pushing the propaganda.

>hydraulic fracturing
because that actually is retarded large scale destruction of our inhabitat for a little profit that is only be economical because of the retards pissing on nuclear energy

>GMO
GMO is not shit. The issus is the usual who would have guessed corrupt Jews behind the scenes that only run a bullshit patent monopoly game with it and the current use is more destructive on our environment and the competition than it does actually any good.

By the way, how big is agriculture in general in Germany and Scandanavia? Do you even grow wheat anymore, or is cheaper to just import it from the US?

are you fucking kidding

No, I'm not fucking kidding. Sorry, I must have been sick when European agriculture was discussed in geography class.

germany has still a very big agriculture sector, another thing thats worth to defend it.
Germany is even able to life by its own agrirculture
There is no reason to become a slave of monsanto and get even more cucked by the U.S then we already are.

Did you seriously think that European countries had no agriculture?

lots of agriculture
HUEG subsidies keep it alive to prevent reliance on food imports
same situation as in america i think
