Tonight's Grand Slam of Darts quarterfinals at Wolverhampton's Civic Hall are all about greatness: the greatest player ever, the greatest improver of 2017, the greatest player at present and the greatest breakthrough in PDC history.
Retiring Phil Taylor takes on Ulster's Daryl Gurney in a cunt-off of large proportions. Pheel has unsurprisingly been given little to worry about so far, with Robbie Green's absolute implosion from 4-2 up on the Prowler his only scare (we won't count losing to James Wade as he obviously threw the game). The last quarter-final sees the latest in the growing rivalry between reigning champion Michael van Gerwen and the year's sensation Rob Cross. Their group A match was of the highest quality, with a combined average of 213, a 170 finish and MVG having to mount his own 4-2 comeback to short Voltage's circuit. Mighty Mike obliterated young Steve Lennon after fooling about for the first two legs while Cross mounted a stunning fightback from 7-6 down against Raymond van Barneveld. This is the biggest test of the Kent ex-electrician's career so far as he has never played over this distance, and hasn't recorded a victory over the Autism Express in the last 5 meetings stretching back to July.
