So ever since I was little I've always wanted to become a police officer due to my desire make an impact in my community and for trust to be built up between the law and the people and all that good stuff (Protect and Serve).
I have immense respect for police officers but I just do not agree with the militarization of police officers making them look like a faux domestic military.
So what exactly happened that has led to this? Why is the public so against police officers?
Before the 90's cops were always seen as the good guys, I need a major redpill or at least some sources to start investigating.

After 9/11, Bush wrote a blank check to local police departments who were permitted to buy pretty much any of the same shit the military uses.
Under Obama, America became much more divided and we first saw the use of this new militarized police force.

we had to call the police today at work because there was a homeless guy with a bowie knife who eventually started running at some college kids with it.
If the police hadn't shown up in five minutes with a lot of sweet gear there would have been several people in the hospital.
Their gear was a bean bag shotgun and a mean fucking dog. It took six of them to keep him on the ground and away from the knife and he was just some skinny guy.
Now imagine there are two people, they aren't totally schizo, and instead of knives they have guns. You have to have the people and the tools for the job you need.
Our rights are very well protected. A cop with an APC and an mp5 isn't going to change that.

Now here's something nobody likes to say, and you won't hear it anywhere else except Sup Forums. The fact is that the war on drugs really is just an excuse to get nigs off the streets.
New York used to have a tremendous murder problem. How did they solve it? First they hired a police department the size of a military. Second, instead of waiting for the murders to happen, they started stepping up the enforcement all the little laws: Jaywalking, trespassing, pissing in public....etc.
It turns out that the people committing the little crimes were also the ones committing the murders (you know who). Thus these laws just gave the police an excuse for getting these people off the street.

Ultimately it was the war on drugs. You can thank Reagan and Nixon for this unmitigated failure of policy. Amazingly, the war on drugs has actually made drugs dangerous (they weren't really before). Two things: 1) heterogeneous culture has increased crime dramatically and groups more prone to violence and mental illness have been growing fastest
2) Street cops in the U.S. are not armed like SWAT. They serve different functions. Both things in your image still exist though the guys on the right are very rarely deployed in most municipalities.
We need good, smart people with level heads and quick wit to become peace officers. Don't discount the profession just because of a few bad apples. Every profession has bad people in it.
