The Mexican Empire was a failed state. The constitution was abolished and a dictatorship formed. And secession and formation of an independent Republic was very popular amongst both Mexicans in Coahuila y Tejas and other states.
It is only natural for anyone to rebel when the government has obviously failed and now wants to institute much higher taxes.
