Why did Norway and Denmark turn to christianity so early?

Why did Norway and Denmark turn to christianity so early?

they were cucks all along

Norwegians and Danes raided Christian Europe ergo more Christian influence in the long run. Compare this with Swedes who just raided Pagan Balts and you'll see why Sweden held onto Paganism for a few years longer.

Norwegians are among God's greatest creations and he wanted them in his flock as soon as possible. Danes are just filthy animals that stole Christianity from their betters.

We raided the byzantines a couple of times though.

converting early to the new cool ideology gives you a good excuse to invade your backwards neighbours whose stuff you already wanted but whose invasion you could never justify

>we wuz rus

The Rus' were pretty much Slavs at that point and the raids were few. Swedes were pretty much isolated from Christians until Danes and Norwegians started getting Christian kings

Putinbot leave
Not the first raid but i get your point

I've read a theory whereby Scandinavia remained pagan for so long because its main trading partner were the Muslim states of the Middle East; Scandinavian weights and measures and most of the currency derived from the Muslim world then. According to this theory, the Byzantine renewal of the 10th century closed the Muslim trade routes along the Caucasus and across Russia to Sweden, causing the Northmen to turn to Christianity in order to gain favourable trading agreements with their new main trading partners who lived along the North Sea.

Why didn't Scandinavia turn muslim then? (inb4 modern day joke)

Also your first Christian king was contemporary to our first, real Christian king. Christianity in Norway also suffered a huge backlash because of Olaf Tryggvason's death, while Christianity in Sweden progressed steadily because of Anund Jakob

A lot of the Rus and Varangians didn't return to Sweden

Because Muslims apparently didn't discriminate against pagans when trading, which is understandable since most of the Middle East was not Muslim in that period, while in Christian countries Nordic merchants could only trade in secrecy, as commerce with pagans was prohibited. That may be the reason that the Swedish province of Vastergotland was staunchly Christian by 850 AD, but areas like Uppland and Smaland remained majority Pagan until at least 1050 AD.

Harald Bluetooth was king over Norway from 970 and was christian. thats quite many years before we had our first christian king (that stayed christian)

Bluetooth was king of Viken, not Norway. His nephew was king of Norway and Norway was ruled by Håkon jarl, a staunch Pagan. Håkon the Good is considered our first Christian king but he made no real attempt at christening us and later became a Pagan. Olaf Tryggvason is the first king that actively tried to convert us

Christianity is a tranny cult. They look on transition as death and resurrection. The cross is a symbol of male and female together.

The Danes are the Tribe of Dan. I think they were some of the first trannies. They run everything in the West now. You see them every day. They look like us, but they are not us. Bosses, teachers, even "friends". They game us relentlessly. They Live and the Truman Show was about them. We live in a fallen world full of wicked families. Not just the 1%. Everywhere!

Wonderful post

Scandinavia was made to be Islamic

Muslims hate more pagans than "the rest of the People of the Book".

*modern day jokes you*
