The reconquista was funded by the production of wool and crash crops that depleted their land and fucked their crop production, which eventually lead to a meaningful population decline. With the access to the new world gold and cash crops, they gave up and industry to fund a warrior class that fought wars for a century until they were defeated by more novel military commanders.
Basically, they gave up on productive work for wars lead by an ineffective hierarchy.
