Are the critics right?

Are the critics right?
Is he really the Kubrick of our generation?

Yes, but plebs and reddit don't understand his kino

No. He's close to levels of Tarantino in that he makes stupid over stylised films that become 2 hr long self indulgent wankfests than an actual movie.

only plebs and redditors love his garbage

>the Kubrick of our generation

That would be Snyder.

Snyder is the Michelangelo of our generation you pleb

Ed?

PPPPFFFFTTAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA no

This.

This sad faggot would be a nice DP on a well casted movie. His "directorial" flippity flops are such a boring snoozefest, timidly redeemed by his OCD scene comps and avantgarde lighting setups. Basically the guy can stage, but its MILES behind a competent director.

He's is the new David Lynch

no, he's the Gerald Thomas of our generation. or maybe Russ Meyer

he is better

i'll allow it

so pure kinomaster

He knows right?

this/thread

It's a mystery how can that low IQ autist be so good at moviemaking. His shit is genuenely entertaining.

he has passion.

...

I thought Bravo Nolan was the Kubrick of our le generation.

Did Kubrick get the same kind of negative reception as he does while his movies are out? I like his stuff a lot but outside of Sup Forums I find very few people who liked Only God Forgives and The Neon Demon.

he hasn't made enough good movies for us to tell

he's hasn't shown the skill of kubrick, but he makes some interesting movies

>Pusher trilogy
>Valhalla Rising
>Bleeder
>OGF
What more could you want
Also this

The only marginally interesting film there is Valhalla Rising. He got lucky with Drive, admit it. I go out of my way to continue watching his films because Bronson was excellent, but it's starting to become a waste of time.

Kek no

wrong. the style is the substance in his films. if you dont get them, you arent paying close enough attention. Also, take more hallucinogens. Its pretty clear what Refn is going for - he has said it himself - they are made with specific drugs in mind.

Pusher was amazing as well. Only God Forgives was just an LSD-film. You will either love it, or need to open your third eye.

Yes. The Shining won a couple of Razzies.

Literally the greatest kinomaster

Quite a few of his films weren't received as well upon opening as they have been over time.

Clockwork Orange was so panned in the UK Kubrick himself petitioned to get it pulled from cinemas there.

That's surprising considering how popular it is today. What other movies will be like that in the future?

Blue is the wamest colour had a pretty difficult release because a lot of people in the US basicall called it porn while it's viewed as a great movie now

...

Like all Chinlets he peaked with his earlier works, and since then his works have become self indulgent and his vision is perverted and lose the essence they once had
The most famous examples of chinlets are George Lucas, and M. Night Shyamalan

pretty crazy actually. years ago watching Valhalla Rising, I was struck by the fact that the movie seemed to be have literally been *made* with hallucinogens in mind. Certain trees moprh certain ways when watching it tripping, and there are many scenes which is are psychedelically "active".

Still my favorite movie btw.

jonathan glazer

...

>the Kubrick of our generation

I don't think anyone's actually said that.

Valhalla Rising > Drive > Bronson > shit > Neon Demon > OGF

...

>if you dont get them, you arent paying close enough attention. Also, take more hallucinogens.
degenerate opinions are worthless

>I am gonna pose like a COOL action pose
>honey just pose normally like Gosling
>.....
>COOL POSE

>"Some guy named Chad"

Is he /ourguy/?

Why did that documentary have so much nudity?

>that documentary where danish tv guys just rip into Refn's entire being
why did he agree to that

cite your sources

Took acid and watched Only God Forgives a year or so bavk and had a religious esque experience. One of my top 10 films now

Yes

Now that the Neon Trilogy is complete I hope he branches out a little more, stylistically.

If he directed a movie written by P.T. Anderson I'd shit a brick. What I'm trying to say is that he is one of the best directors of our generation, just isn't the best writer.

Refn makes movies by having a strong visual vision and then building a movie around it. Plot and script are meaningless for Refn. The end result is a great looking mess.

How come Goose's movie was panned? It seemed like a 1:1 vintage Refn.

This is the truth. I like his directing and style choices but his writing is always shit.

Yes and anyone whoever denies it is a pleb. Remember, Kubrick was not a director many people thought fondly of during his time either. In 20 years Refn will be (rightfully) considered king of kino

TND really seemed like a sequence of scenes that Refn thought would "look cool" without a lot of cohesion.
