I think he's pretty sincere, just a bit of a hypocrite sometimes. He does basically the same stupid shit he points out about other youtubers, and it's clear he often runs out of ideas. I watch his videos from time to time and I've enjoyed a few of his podcasts, but he's not that funny. I don't know, his delivery can be lame and his humor is too reddit for me. youtube and twitch are inherently degenerate. there are exceptions, however. there are youtubers/vloggers that cater to or deal with legitimate hobbies or fields of interest. but these mega-youtubers like pewdiepie and h3h3 are just populist autist channels. there is a reason why the most subscribed to people on youtube are minecraft/let's play/reaction channels. that's not to say that these mega-autists don't put out funny or creative content from time to time. but to actually consider yourself part of their fan-base and keep up with them is sad and reddit-tier.

You can see this with the sudden influx of "Honorable German" characters in WWII at the beginning of the Cold War because of an attempt by the US government to warm the citizenry to the West Germans. You can see it in post 9/11 movies that paint the US military as inherently honorable (in return for free use of facilities, equipment, weapons, and even active duty personnel as extras for filming).
