Currently North and South America have no infrastructure connection. Instead there is a big wild area between the two continents and no one has built a highway or rail yet.
As part of improving infrastructure there should be highway and road construction project to connect the Americas and allow more economic and tourism growth. Sup Forums what do you think about the darien gap crisis and should it be solved now that FARC rebels in the area are peaceful?
The point of the road is that it will cause illegal lumbering and clear the forest around it. Fucking up the natural life of the primitive tribes and forcing it to advance.
Also the only point of such a road or connection would be tourism. Meaning people will want to drive through the area to see it.
Caleb Howard
Unironically this, there's no need to build anything there other than an autist fixation with the Panamerican highway. It should be kept as a nature reserve.
Jackson Anderson
Everything in your post is objectively bad
Nathan Barnes
What about future rail project once the road is done though?
Ferrys are cumbersome.
Ethan Powell
This Maintaining the ferry sistem is cheaper and less risky than making a pointless highway that also goes into nowhere in Colombia
Henry Kelly
>preserving poverty and squalor when it can be a good tourism drive
Blake Morris
>muh economy
David Nelson
Leave the fucking trees alone reeeeeeeee
Brody Wood
>clear the forest to build road >evict a ton of people >destroy biodiversity of the region >harm local economy >deal with guerillas while building >possible attack by monsters >destroy tourism, since its draw is untamed dangerous jungle and you take that away
It’s just a waste of money, you can ship stuff from the canal and it’d be much cheaper and easier than driving through an impassable swamp
Aaron Myers
Nuke it
Cooper Murphy
>possible attack by monsters
Tell me more about the monsters
Anthony Smith
There’s already places, safe places, where you can go around in a jungle. There’s no reason to destroy Darien Gap so Cletus and his family can go drive around it, throwing trash and harming the ecosystem
Adrian Sanders
It's just South Americans being retarded
Any monsters would be in the Amazon not the Darien Gap
Christopher Hall
Americans are the fucking worst
Zachary Johnson
colombians
Robert Foster
To connect north and south america? To create the longest highway in the world? To promote tourism and economic development?
A road or rail won't destroy an entire jungle.
Kayden Wilson
>going to lengths to build roads in an extremely difficult place to do so >while also destroying diversity >in a world where ferries and planes exist It's not like the only alternative to move from point A to point B is either a car or a train
Oliver Watson
Shamans and witches, Amerindian juju Lots of poisonous critters, spiders, snakes, colorful frogs, scorpions And
Gavin Perry
Fragmented forests are shite
Brayden Sanchez
You don't fucking destroy one of the most bio-diverse places in the planet just because muh ongest highway or whatever. Stop being so retarded for once.
William Martinez
>To connect north and south america? You're saying that as if currently it was literally impossible to move between the two. >To create the longest highway in the world? Only useful for dickwaving purposes, I'd want way more than that for the government to spend muh taxes >To promote tourism and economic development? See first. If you were really looking forward to visiting let's say Colombia or Venezuela, and the only reason you don't is because there's a gap on the highway system, you clearly were not interested or invested enough for it. Also, it's cheaper to move by plane if distances are greater than 1000km. A fully booked flight is even more fuel efficient than a car.
Luis Myers
OP cares deeply about a bad idea
Ian Cruz
South America is to Panama AS Mexico is to the United States. Pretty simple really. Panama has a Green Wall that Trump could only ever dream about. (pretty simple really)
Carson Bailey
theres little road left to build in order to close, we just wont build it. bad inmigration, mad cow down south. endangered unesco world heritage. south america moves cargo by boats anyways. airplane tickets to colombia from here are less than 300 . colombia is our mexico btw nooone would go driving from usa to south america anyways... unless you want to get beheaded in mexico
Blake Miller
You are as dumb as OP
John Rodriguez
Why not want economic development and infrastructure development?
A big highway throughout Americas will foster tourism and other things. Saying "get on a boat" is ludicrous.
Sebastian Parker
Tunnel / raised platforms etc.
Jonathan Brooks
The Darien is a ecological reserve man You can't destroy them that's why they are reserves There is no need for a road there, please understand that. Many people already do that journey and the Darien gap ain't an issue, it would be a road in the middle of nowhere ridden with drug trafficking from Colombia to Panama
Asher Watson
>build infrastructure project >hire PMC blackwater to protect and kill unwanted people around it >economies grow >create a culture of "backpack from canada to Argentina along the America's Highway" with lots of tourist traps along the way to fuck brown prostitutes and stuff.
Benjamin Fisher
Think past 1 year away. You build the road and illegal lumbering and shit starts to happen. Soon it's clear around the road and you can see rebels/guerillas far away or have drones blow them up.
It's about setting up for the upgrade of the region as time passes. This is like step 1 towards step 50 which is a nice waterfront resort locations and tourism with private military people killing anyone who fucks with it.
Evan Brooks
>letting this little fucking gap stop so much advancement. We need to complete it. 60 fucking miles of road.

>destroy tourism, since its draw is untamed dangerous jungle and you take that away
Sot people go to the other jungles that are more developed for tourism
Angel Russell
Fuck no, we'd get littered with centracas (only C ricans are acceptable as they actually have a really similar genepool to ours but still it's not worth the risk. Thanks, but no thanks.
Henry Long
So tldr you want to kill nature so you can drive through the area?
Dominic Cox
There are already plans for a connection and there have been for decades. There just isn't political will to do so. People also protest the damage it would do to the environment. Though I agree with your proposal, it's actually part of a world wide spanning highway and rail system plan. Also included would be a bearing straight crossing as well as a Gibraltar crossing. You should look up the plans for it, it's pretty cool.
Noah Bennett
How can you look at primitive 0 GDP areas of the world and not want to build shit there? The land is of amazing value. USA could conquer the fucking entire gap area in like a day. Hell we should be negotiating with Panama to buy it all
Austin Stewart
question: why? you get better results from travling by plane and trading via boat
Thomas Price
name a country that uses ferry instead of roads between coastal cities.
