After weeks of focusing on a group of current and former elected officials in his search for a running mate, Donald Trump is increasingly intrigued by the idea of tapping retired Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn in order to project strength and know-how on national security, according to four people familiar with the vetting process.
Flynn, 57, a registered Democrat but fierce critic of President Obama, previously ran the Defense Intelligence Agency.
In Flynn, Trump believes he would have a partner whom he trusts, based on their close working relationship over the course of the campaign on policy. And he likes the image of a businessman and a general coming to Washington as outsiders.
“Trump-Flynn. I’ve heard him say that, kind of test out the sound of it,” one person said of how Trump is mulling the possibility. “I think it’s a brand he finds appealing.”
Do you like this guy, Sup Forums? What do you think?
and he's white so Republicans will vote for him regardless
Ryan Gutierrez
>people use chopped up and abridged statements on twitter due to the character limit
WOW WHAT AN ASTOUNDING DISCOVERY
Evan Parker
> linking to commie Taniel
Mason Morgan
>and he's white so Republicans will vote for him regardless are you retarded? There are plenty of White liberals they won't vote for.
Christian Butler
Idk. I think trump is going to focus more on swinging some of the moderate libs over. The die hard Republicans just simply will not vote for hil-dog, so taking a wack at her voter base seems like a smart move
John Jenkins
YES YES YES
This guy would make Shillary shit her pants
Also FBI user said Trump would pick him
Austin Reed
>I think trump is going to focus more on swinging some of the moderate libs over. T There's very very little evidence he's succeeding at this and only his most delusional supporters think it'll happen.
Blake Lewis
If they're going for registered dems that would still appeal to Republicans, would Webb not be a slightly better choice?
Easton Harris
>The die hard Republicans just simply will not vote for hil-dog, And while they won't vote for Hillary, many of them WILL stay home if there's two Democrats running on the Republican ticket.
Andrew Bennett
Sounds reasonable to me.
Also, could Flynn fly the plane after Trump gets one in the braincase?
Joseph Cox
>Sounds reasonable to me. Liberals are already spinning Trump/Flynn as the second coming of George Wallace/Curtis LeMay. Wallace also picked a general as his VP. This is a terrible choice.
Austin Thompson
also:
>However, if Trump does nominate a Democrat, that probably changes the equation. I would guess that the challenge to Trump's own nomination would immediately get very serious. I would furthermore think that even if the delegates do not reject Trump as the nominee, they might well reject his choice of Flynn and embarrass Trump by nominating someone else for VP - someone he didn't choose and someone who he might not like.
>Either way, I suspect that this move would breathe life into the #DumpTrump movement at a critical moment. So if you believe that Trump really is trying to lose and/or save himself the embarrassment of a general election loss, this move makes a lot of sense.
>Trump's biggest problem right now is rallying the GOP base. Not really, no. He's got record turnout. He has the GOP base.
William Gonzalez
I agree, that's his style
Hunter White
>red state
Luke Carter
I don't mind them testing or muddying the waters at all.
I got a thing in the mail from a person I wound up doxing in a matter of about 10 minutes the other day. Of course he didn't respond to me when I asked him for more information, although I was nice enough to not use his personal contact information.
But the polling people don't understand, even though Sup Forums has been trying to tell them, that we don't care about statistic and technical winnings. We care about our country, all our countries, and we want our lives back.
Jose Myers
9/10 pick. The only better picks would be Webb or pic related.
Matthew Edwards
Trump has already rallied the GOP base. Primary turnout was the highest it's been in decades and you had record numbers of Independents and Democrats going over to vote for Trump (I know, I was one of them).
Moderates have become a vocal minority in the Democratic Party - ignored or shamed for any criticism of the far-Left. Most of us are fucking fed up with it. We have the fact that our party has become consumed by race-baiting, identity politics, and socialist rubbish.
Trump's best tactic here is to play for the disgruntled voters in the middle - the Independents and pissed off Moderate Democrats who want nothing to do with Hillary Clinton.
Picking a centrist Democrat with a strong national security background and a no-nonsense attitude, someone like a Michael Flynn or a Jim Webb, is the right play here.
Jack Powell
>talking about nevertrumpers as if they are in any way relevant
They had their chance and failed spectacularly, they need to get the fuck over it
Ryder Lopez
What if this is Trump testing the waters to see how we will receive a registered Democrat with a military background who thinks the Obama Administration needs work and that Hillary isn't fit for the job?
What if....
Josiah Hall
What if...
Nathaniel Wilson
Mattis would be a better fit for Secretary of Defense I think.
Zachary Scott
Can't Skin The Flynn, so they say.
Joshua Adams
hi
Elijah Sanders
The fact that idiots here actually think Webb would be a good choice just proves how clueless Sup Forumstards are. Webb would have a NEGATIVE effect in his own homestate of Virginia!
>when we look at Jim Webb as a possible Trump running mate- in that hypothetical Clinton's lead over Trump expands to 6 points at 47/41, as voters evidently aren't big on the concept of him on the ticket.
