It's short for "Konning into NO" or Conning into no other theatre, a phrase used in the 30's and a small revivalist movement in the early 90's to signify if a movie's production crew got a large sum of money but actually kept most of it, simply because they knew the publicity of the movie would sell itself
You could think of the recent Avatar, Super hero, or the biggest culprit, Adam Sandlers Jack & Jill as prime examples of KINO.
