So can anyone explain the reasoning butthurt Remainians have when they're so mad about us leaving the EU that they're threatening to move to counties that were never in the EU?

Why is British politics so full of missed chances? 1978: Jim Callaghan doesn't call an election, hoping to wait for the polls to move ahead in 1979 so he doesn't have to endure another minority government. Liberals abandon confidence agreement 1979: Winter of discontent discredits Labour, traitor Labour MPs impose an undemocratic rule on Scottish devolution referendum. Scotland narrowly votes "yes" but because it wasn't 40% of the entire electorate (on a fucking shonky voting register), devolution is refused. The liberals were already pledged to back any confidence vote (something people always overlook) and the SNP make a confidence motion - later withdrawn so the tories can make one. Liberal, SNP and Conservatives do it and the government falls by a single vote (which could have come from many sources.) 1980: Dennis Healey runs a lazy campaign to be Labour leader: He loses. 1982: Falklands war leads from Thatcher being at the nadir of her popularity to the peak. 1983: SDP fail to surpass the Labour party. Thatcher wins an increased majority 1987: no SDP breakthrough. 1992: John Major wins (in some ways a blessing for Labour given Black Wednesday was just around the corner) an outright majority. "Free by '93" is a disaster for the SNP. On the plus side, Jim Sillars - who was a reasonable man at the time - fucks off and Alex Salmond takes over 1997: >tfw no SNP breakthrough even though voting Labour was pointless 1999: no SNP win (maybe a good thing longer term) 2003: Iraq. 2007: 100,000 invalid votes which could possibly have given the SNP a larger majority (or maybe are the only reason they won, you never know.) 2010: No Lib-Lab deal purely for the purposes of implement PR then holding another 2014: Scottish independence fails. While possibly a 1992-style blessing, Scotland leaving would hold advantages for English identity too. 2015: Outright Conservative majority 2016: Greens cost the SNP their majority at Holyrood (possibly a blessing - too soon to tell.)

Whoops, forgot: >1993: John Major wins vote of confidence >1994: John Smith dies.
Which are very important. Especially the latter. Even a single term with Smith could have seen off Blair.

ol' nige has a point about "what they're being taught in uni (schools)". i was raised in glasgow and looking back it, the teachers were all socialists. there was a teacher at my high school who ran for the Scottish Socialist party but didn't get elected. there were no conservative people besides the women primary school teachers who were all over 50 back when i was there.

Still. If you're writing Alternate history...
A brilliant point as well.
Especially when it comes to Labour PMs, there's a nuance to it as well: Had Brown called in 2007 or Callaghan in 1978, the Tory party may have ousted their losing leader - which could mean an even worse alternative, helping Labour win the next election (or a more "moderate" force coming in - such as someone sticking to the postwar consensus in 1983 under an extended Callaghan term.)

There will be no 'day of the rope'. Foreigners will be peacefully deported from this land and given help to re-establish themselves in their homelands. Like the Haavara agreement.
