French. It has worked for a few centuries
The logical starting point for this should be that the language is easy and quick to acquire which in practical terms translates to a simple (or at least regular) grammar and a phonetic orthography.
In what world do either of these come close to the above?

+1 I guess
English is the easiest, simplest and dumbest language to learn so that probably.
German would be the best option, because the language is very direct and open. It's just as meaningful as Dutch. However, most Europeans are not capable of learning German. French is quite easy to learn and speak for most people. It's harder to express something in French than German, but I bet most people could learn this language.
I hate everyone so forcing people to learn German would be good punishment. Fuck all those verb conjugations.
but everyone relevant already knows english so why the need to learn anything?
it's ok :)
It depends on which is your birth language. I find easier to speak portuguese, italian and french (and catalonian (? ) than german or other languages, but I guess that people who speak germanic languages wouldn't agree with me.
But french pronunciation and writing is weird, I preffer german because it makes sense.
This, but unironically
