Why didn't they go by car instead of boats? It would be much more comfy tbqh

They are going to a island

...

That a bridge in Tasmania. No bridge goes across the bass strait.

>No bridge goes across the bass strait.
Not with that attitude. I'm watching the race though, so comfy.

It is very comfy. Record may very well fall this year.

1998 was amazing

Who /Laser/ here?

Why don't they just use foiling catamarans?

probably because it's a single-hull race

1. There is minimal interest in multihull sailing in Australia.
2. There is no group of multihull sailors who have asked the CYCA or set up a MCYCA to run or run alongside the race.

There may also be some liability issues that the CYCA doesn't want to touch.

There is a long history of Open60s and modified Open60s racing, but of the mono-hull kind.

Foiling monohulls then

Beautiful pic

The ancient boats are nice.

again, it's probably because they're not racing foiling mono-hulls, and their classes have all kinds of specifications anyway

but if you're up to building and creating a racing scene for 300ft foiling monohulls, you go right ahead man

They're sentimental about the past?

pls post bigger version if you have one.
Tin Eye'd and this is the biggest one out there. Still not big enough.

The next america cups is going back to monohulls since most people don't want to sail multis

As a update to the actual race.

Line honors

Comanche (100 foot Maxi - VPLP and Guillaume Verdier design)
Wild Oats XI (100 foot Maxi - Reichel/Pugh design, 8 time winner of line honors)
Black Jack ( 100 foot Maxi - Reichel/Pugh design but not the same as Wild Oats)
Beau Geste (24.4 Meter Maxi - Botin Partners Design)
InfoTrack (formerly Perpetual LOYAL) (100
foot maxi -Juan Kouyoumdjian deisgn)

The Maxi's actually use foils, just not pure foils since no one wants to foil for days on end.

Will look to see if I have any. Here a big one of the overall winner in 1998.

Beautiful!
Post more if you've got anymore this beautiful.
Much appreciated.

I will do a general dump of photos.

Sailed in the 2012 race on a boat (was the cook)

These of course are not my personal photos

Last of photos for now.

The handicap winner right now looks like a two boat race between the american volvo 70 Wizard and the Sydney based TP52 Ichi Ban.

They are de facto mono-foilers. Just offshore ones that do not take it to the full extreme.

The other major issue is that the S2H has is that they made a bet on big (100 foot) super maxis, while most of the other big races have been more of the traditional 75-80 foot maxi's.

Those other races have a much healthier fleet numbers as the line honors is not sailing days ahead of the smaller boats (Which still cost huge amounts of money.)

Also the fancy super maxi's are expensive, and now almost all are in Aussie land as no one wants to race with them except other super-maxi's

It should be noted that Wizard in 2016 as Giacomo won on handicap and came 2nd on line honours.
Depending on how the wind goes at the Derwent will be decisive.
If it eases after Wizard finishes then it is simple.
If it eases earlier then a V70 will be in trouble against TP52's.
It it stays steady then it will be close.
Quest is looking good right now, but it is too close to the coast for my liking.

Yep, a lot will depend on the wind, though at this point I think one of the TP52s (Quest, Ichi Ban, Hollywood Boulevard) or the Rogers 46 will win handicap.

Never mind, I didn't know that the Celestial is now at TP52 as well. I thought it was still a Rogers 46

Thoughts on the America's cup?

doesn't look particularly comfy tbqh

Glad they are doing away with the multi-hulls, but we will see if the mono-foilers will work well.

I rather see them go with say, a mostly inexpensive 60-73 footer so you have a huge amount of entries and make a big regatta like what happened when it was in western aus.

Chutzpah is doing very well, hanging in at the rear of the TP52 group as a 40.

Great pics BSA, have some rare S2H's in return

I've steamed through that strait. How the fuck could you cook anything aboard a sailboat in those sea states?

...

They are in the Derwent, Comanche less than 1km ahead of WOXI
First time any vessels have made it to the Derwent in daytime on the 27th.

Any streams?

global warming needs to hurry up so we can cancel this gay cunt shit

It will do the opposite.

winner?

Some boat owned by rich wine fucks, again.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?

the front fell off

is that normal?

youtube.com/watch?v=3m5qxZm_JqM

when was the last time the boat that entered the derwent first didn't win?

breddy gud race compared to the last decade or so imho

>Wild Oats XI wins lol

when's based larry going to return? won it almost 20 years ago and never came back

As a cook you learn ways to do stuff. In really bad weather you get something canned (like canned spaghetti) pop a hole in the top of the can to let it steam out , and heat it in the can, and then get it topside for the crew on deck so they have something warm.

It a skill that people are surprised is a need on the boats, but it means I sailed in all three big offshore races.

YFW LDV Comanche protest results in a 30 minute penalty

Great race for line honors, lets see who wins the race though.

anyone else miss the days prior to supermaxi's?
