On the DVD they talk about how the show was filmed in front of a live audience so the audience had to watch as they picked up everything he knocked over and rearranged the set each time just to see him knock it over again and know they were gonna have to go through it all over again. The whole thing took HOURS to film. The audience pretty much got the special extended edition.

I watched through these two times in my early twenties and loved them, a friend turned me onto them.
It's a slow burn, but (and I still stand by this), at times the sketch comedy-show-arc overall gets BETTER than Monty Python, which is meaningful because yes, Monty Python is also very funny despite having its own set of gags and tropes that it relies on. it's just knowing different "personalities" and deciding for yourself if they're funny or not.
I'm very fond of the one with the "ethnic" landlords who feud over the moving tenant. they escalate threats until they recognize their obscure memetic ethnic friendship: "I SPIT on your spit! I... PISS on your spit! I... SHIT ON YOUR PISS! I FART ON YOUR SHIT! I LAUGH AT.. your fart.....?!"

Ehh there are quite a bit of references to current events at least. 90's grunge culture, OJ chase, people being inspired to commit suicide from lyrics, states seceding, the popularity of COPS...they don't rely on it for cheap humor, like "hurr hurr 'member when OJ was running from the cops??" but they definitely are satirizing it and if you don't get the references it won't have the same effect.
