The last 16 of the PDC World Darts Championship concludes today, with 6 unseeded players on course to try and continue the remarkable string of upsets we've had this year.
Starting the afternoon off are Norfolk's favourite midget Darren Webster and Spain's Toni Alcinas. If the Samurai replicates the first few sets of his game against Kevin Münch, the Demolition Man will be in trouble, but Webster's victory over Simon Whitlock showed he can win despite performing worse. Two matches with no losers follow, starting with everyone's favourite unorthodox Serbo-Austrian Mensur Suljovic against dancing Belgian Dimitri Van den Bergh. Mensur hasn't looked at his best so far, his miraculous struggle with Robert Thornton a perfect example, while the Dreammaker brushed Jan Dekker aside with ease. Daryl Gurney's conqueror ends the afternoon as man mountain John Henderson goes up against "the new Phil Taylor" in Rob Cross. The Highlander got his scoring right to eliminate Superchin, but even that will surely not be enough to defeat Cross, whose 7-set epic with Michael Smith saw him average nearly 8 points more than the Scot.
The strangest last 16 of all starts the evening with Wales' Jamie Lewis against war boy James Richardson. Fireball produced the performance of his life to eliminate Peter Wright, while Ruthless won through a terrible scrap against Alan Norris. If Lewis gets anywhere near to last night's average, Richardson is done. The latest player to attempt to stop the Phil Taylor retirement tour early is Keegan Brown, whose R2 match with Zoran Lerchbacher was downright terrible; the conqueror of coughing Justin Pipe will therefore surely overpower the youngster. Ending the evening are Gary Anderson and Steve West; Gando only just got past near 2-time 9-dart hero Paul Lim while West brushed past Jermaine Wattimena. The pace and scoring surely favours Gary, and it's hard to see how West can beat him.
Coverage starts at 12:30pm UK time on Sky Sports Darts (SS Arena).
All matches are best of 7 sets; first to 3 legs in a set.
