Zemeckis has gotta be low-key one of the most underrated masters of filmmaking working today. Everyone loves him yes, but I rarely see that love getting expressed. His talent is immense. Even on his animated experiments, which may have been of relative quality material-wise, but placed him as THE most technologically innovative storyteller in the world, influencing people like Cameron, Spielberg, Fincher or Cuaron to follow in his trails, he didn't get credit by cinephiles.
The Walk was excellent but completely flew under the radar, which was already a terrible injustice. Then came Allied. I don't think I've seen a single thread on Sup Forums discussing it or praising its merits, when it's one of the rare modern Hollywood films done with sheer visual elegance, storytelling playfulness and respect towards the audience, and most importantly, complete sincerity without any kind of disingenuous political pandering, everything a prestige "oscarbait" should strive to be, but isn't anymore. The sandstorm scene is perhaps the most striking moment of cinematic grace and sublime in an American A-list production in at least a decade. In a morally bankrupt world where values are constantly and completely reversed, it doesn't even surprise me that this went un-noticed by the intelligentsia, it just saddens me that even on Sup Forums where so-called kino lovers dwell this didn't get even 1% of the love it deserved.
Shame on you, tasteless faggots. You're no better than redditors. Enjoy your endless capeshit and other studio-driven reboots and remakes.

Is this just 2 hours of Kirsten Dunst trying to have sex with a beta male?
What's up with all the fucking trannies lol? Half the most liked lists seem to be something to do with black people/women/gays. It's genuinely fucking annoying that to get to a list that might be interesting I have to scroll for 3 pages of "100 films directed by women" "positive LBGTQ+ representation in film" "movies where white males get their dicks chopped off"
Why have all these people been drawn to letterboxd? Where have they come from?
Tyler Turner
They also seem to rate films lower based on whether the director has ever been accused of anything they don't like or if a film doesn't represent something in the way they want

Can I get a rundown of the kinos from this list if you've seen them? I like these kind of movies but i'm sure a lot of them are going to be bad
I would go off the ratings but film ratings on letterboxd/imdb seem to have nothing in common with how much I personally like films so looking for more personal anecdotal recs
thanks lads

>14 pages I looked at the first page and I've seen Visiting Hours, which I didn't think was very good but has a good performance from Michael Ironside as the woman-hating killer.

Of the 90 I've seen my top picks would be: >Massacre Mafia Style Duke Mitchell is the greatest, an auteur of trash, this and gone with the pope (which I slightly prefer) are so much fun
>Zombi 2 + The Beyond lot of Fulci on the list, I find him to be hit and miss but these two are wonderful, creative with the gore but also well paced and with a good horror atmosphere
>Anguish Really smart horror that creates an hugely unsettling atmosphere and executes the use of a metanarrative to perfection.
>Maniac One of the best horror films of all time, everything in it works and it has a horrible grimy atmosphere that is unrivalled
>2019: After the fall of New York Super low budget Italian mad max rip off. Feels insanely cheap but it is a lot of fun to watch, Sopkiw is such a great D-grade action star. Also watch Castellari's Bronx Warriors trilogy which is on the list too if you like this
>Handgun + Prostitute Surprised to see these on the list since they aren't really sleaze at all. Use exploitation elements in the story but are intentionally non-exploitative in how they are shown, and used instead to tell a drama with a socially conscious edge. Both very good, saw Tony Garnett "in conversation" recently (he also introduced the 35mm screening of handgun afterwards) and he's a really smart and cool guy.
>Wild Beasts A bunch of animals take PCP and run wild round a city. Tons of fun

could you go into detail about the pacing issues on Logan?, cause to me the runtime was perfect, and at no time i felt it dragged or anything.
Just my opinion, but it being the year 2029 and the cars and all looking like something from today worked well, because the film wasn't trying to go balls out with pompous futuristic imagery, it just wanted to tell a story.
And with Sabertooth, I think Logan fighting X-24 was actually a very good choice, better than Sabertooth, metaphorically and literally, he's fighting himself, whatever that means to you but it did mean something to me.
I've never been a fan of X-men but Logan was a really pleasant surprise of a Blockbuster. Also, what parts reminded you of Origins?
Hadn't seen a Van Damme film until Cyborg just now which seems pretty fucked up. What is his best?

Dear Emily Jean faggot,
Why do you call her Emily Jean and not Emma Stone? Are you embarrassed that you're obsessed with her and won't her call by her common name in hopes that we won't know what you are talking about?
Sincerely a curious user

Emily Jean is a really beautiful name, I wish she could have kept it as her stage name too.
Logan was alright I suppose. I haven't seen many of the X-Men movies, so I didn't know any lore/backstory, but it didn't seem necessary for this one. It was more of a neo-western than a comicbook movie.
Someone in this thread suggested The Best Man to me and I have to say that was a great recommendation. I absolutely love hyper-moralizing monologues, especially from Henry Fonda.
Landscape Suicide was superb, and a great way to top myself off to 1,300 films.

I must admit that I viscerally hated Tarkovsky's "Nostalgia" and completely hated the use of Beethoven in it. I've seen it only once, but none of the Tarkovsky films that I have seen did I think are really good.

I haven't seen American Dreams yet, but I did see Landscape Suicide. I thought Landscape Suicide was interesting because it doesn't command sympathy or empathy for either the perpetrators or the victims. The stilted speech and gorgeous landscape shots allowed you to really sink into and imagine these crimes and what they mean. That's what I got out of it, at least.
