Why are people okay with the US prison system making people into hardened criminals - isnt the point of a prison system to make crime LESS likely, not MORE?
I don't get it. Is it THAT important to punish people, when it just makes the situation worse?
Whenever someone brings it up, people just say "oh you must want no government action at all you're just sympathizing with criminals more than law abiding citizens you fucking bleeding heart librul." People also selectively bring up "studies" by "experts" supporting their claims but don't really address the mountains of criticism attracted by those studies. They go to ridiculous lengths to justify the culture of retributivism and power.

we ought to have a 3 strike rule, go to jail 2 times and the third time you get arrested you are immediately executed
Noah Watson
Simple solutions to complex problems almost never work
Most of the time, you're only addressing the symptoms of the problem, not the cause, and it just makes things worse.
Low effort thinking is what turns the world into a hellhole
Camden Nelson
>isnt the point of a prison system to make crime LESS likely, not MORE? yes, by separating criminals from society and by mantaining them under vigilance once they are released from prison, that you don't attempt to do any of those two things is something else altogether
Ryder Parker
By maintaining them under vigilance, do you mean making it impossible to reintegrate them into society?
Because I really doubt someone who did a stint in jail for a non-violent/minor offense really needs to be kept under constant vigilance, considering huge segments of the population commit minor crimes frequently and are contributing members of society, the only difference is they didnt get caught
Think about it, the average person commits several crimes a day. There are so many things that are illegal and still on the books its impossible for the average person NOT to commit crimes. Hell, where I live having sex AT ALL is illegal, its just selectively enforced. Huge segments of the population do recreational drugs that are illegal in some places, but have a job, pay taxes, and contribute to society.
Incarcerating most of these people in the current system just makes them incapable of living a normal life, and this doesnt benefit ANYONE. Is it really necessary to turn people into hardened criminals just because they got caught? It's a waste of tax payer dollars, and just makes the world a worse place.
Thomas Edwards
There is no real agreed upon purpose of the criminal justice system.
Blake Butler
to scare people, duh. who the fuck wants to go to prison?
Nolan Ross
its obviously not working

america is full of angry houswives who watch bill oreilly. these housewives are angry... no.. not angry.... FUCKING FURIOUS....
they are furious about the fact God never smiled on them, in other words they are angry about their own stupidity/inferiority..
How do they vent this vicious anger? they support the jailing of millions of nonviolent americans... there you have it... all anger and injustice stems from inferior ppl and their anger
Colton King
>making people into Guess what. All the people have the option and agency to decide to NOT become criminals. Shock! Surprise! They typically are the kinds of people that don't make that choice and no matter what you do, many of them will fuck their lives up over short-term gains.
You can't reform everyone, because some people don't want it.
Grayson Harris
Are the guys in that image collecting giant dinosaur piss?
Levi Sanchez
>US prison system making people into hardened criminals
Could you please explain what you mean? 60% of people in prison are there for violent crime. 20% for property crime and theft.
Oliver Reyes
Yes.
the dinosaur in the picture eats poppies and pisses out heroin
Lincoln Young
>blah blah blah choice
low effort thinking is so retarded
Charles Peterson
Good post
Eli Rogers
3 strike rules are part of the problem.
Jeremiah Edwards
Why?
Brandon Murphy
They're called beasts of resplendent liquid
Ethan Morgan
Its heroin.
Ayden Turner
every time they've been implemented they've caused more harm then good
they don't lower the crime rate, they just ship more people off to jail and waste tax payers dollars
Addressing the concerns in your picture - what the lizard is doing is just converting poppies to heroin biologically, instead in a lab
its actually theoretically possible in a few hundred years, via genetic engineering and whatnot. After all, most mammals convert the various shit they eat into milk, its not a far leap.
Ayden Green
I'm not saying it isn't possible or an interesting part of a setting, just that it's kinda silly.
Michael Cox
>he actually thinks criminals do crimes with the intention of getting caught and going to jail >he thinks criminals won't just do crimes anyway or that criminals have better things to do than crime lmao
Kayden Diaz
It's less silly in context - they made dozens of different kinds, all for medicinal purposes
Kevin Stewart
I like the concept but having to collect dinosaur piss for drugs can't not be silly to me.
Matthew Turner
Prisons in owned by corporations in usa, they make profit from it.
