Australia completely ceases to subsidise renewable energy

Fuck this shithole backwater why the fuck would our government willfully turn it's back to billions of dollars in investment revenue?

>subsidy
>good investment

don't think i have a brainlet small enough to do justice to this mind fart

If the government isn't subsidizing one form of energy then it shouldn't be subsidizing any. Oh wait

solar power is a meme.

The report by the conservative Institute for Energy Research on "the diminishing value of solar power" found "solar photovoltaic (PV) energy contributes no additional capacity to the grid at a penetration level of 6 percent or beyond."

In addition, solar power is getting cheaper over time rapidly. You want to invest later.

A subsidy implies that the investment is bad and needs additional incentives.

"Additional solar above the threshold is actively harmful to the ability of operators to maintain the capacity of the grid because it undermines the economics of those energy sources that must continue to provide the capacity to meet peak demand," the report stated.

The report also warns lawmakers against lobbying by the solar industry for subsidies to avoid the "looming value cliff."

"Policymakers should be wary of throwing good money after bad — of subsidizing a resource whose value is diminishing as additional capacity is added unless storage or some other advanced technology becomes economical," according to the report.

>waaahh why won't the government fund worthless garbage

>Scandinavian that doesn't like RE

Dafuq?

Why do you expect him to understand about solar energy?

Dont worry, solar energy is great for countries like chile, Australia, etc

solar is shit
geothermal makes more sense for chile
and nuclear for australia since they have uranium

Binland isn't scandi

we prefer coal

But I don't understand.

Australia of all places is 80% useless, hot wasteland. Building solar plants all over the place should make energy almost free in your country.

We literally had an antinuclear party in the senate for 6 years

"Hurrr coal is good for the economy tonay abbottt pbuh!" -Average manly nigger

Why should we subsidise? It's already cheaper than coal.

>and nuclear for australia since they have uranium
We also have thousands of hectares of empty land which receives more sunlight than a large portion of the planet.

That's because it is more profitable to sell our nuclear materials than it is to process it ourselves. Similar with iron ore, which we export then import once China has manufactured it.
Nuclear power is expensive, requires huge amounts of long term planning and requires more care and maintenance. All of these things are those a short term government doesn't want to deal with. Be this a positive or negative thing, it's a fundamental problem surrounding infrastructure projects in Australia; primarily that we rely on governments who handle decades long processes when they only think about their term and the term election period.

We could have had a fibre network similar to the original NBN plan, in the 90s. This is an example of yet another expensive and long term project the government at the time ultimately did not want to deal with, as it didn't fit the short term approach to maintaining power.

JUST

Most renewables are a meme. Nuclear is the future.

These cocksuckers don't give a fuck what is good for country or its people, they do what money tells them to do.

Good. Subsidies are cancer upon the free market.

Out of all places Australia would probably benefit from solar the most. Fuck they could sprinkle solar installations all over the country and never have to use another source of energy.

Nuclear takes decades to implement and political capital that we just don't have available in Australia
Also
Solar and storage is marginally easier to achieve within a shorter timeframe
