On Thursday I'm going to my local recruitment office.
I want to serve my country as my grandfather (navy: Cold War), great-grandfather (army: WW2), and great-great-grandfather (army: Boer War & WW1) did before me.
Should I join the Army or the Navy?
I think I've already reached my own decision but I'm interested to hear alternative arguments for either.
Navy you'll get called a bumder and get stuck at HMS Collingwood for an eternity. But you'll make loads of shipmates and all have sex.
Army you'll get called a nonce because they're all nonces. I advise you join the tug of war team because you'll get out of doing anything.
But jobs for life. Both will see you a good life. Both with give you a decent set of skills. Up to you.
Brayden Morgan
In the navy, roughly how much time would you say is spent at sea vs how much is spent in a dock or base?
Gabriel Peterson
Bump
Hunter Myers
depends and I don't know exactly, I think maybe 6 weeks tops? but you get loads of runs ashore in places all around the world. plenty of opportunity to catch the clap off your shippers.
Colton Campbell
>I want to serve my country Do you mean you want to become a glorified welfare leech? If so, go ahead.
Jacob Torres
Whatever will kill you the fastest you dirty Brit.
Wyatt Diaz
I'm joining the army planning on Infantry (east anglian)
Either way, match up your career prospects and have an idea of what you want to do whilst serving.
18, 5'6 /fit/
William Taylor
That actually sounds pretty comfy tobehonest.
I am leaning towards navy because the stories my Grandad tells about his service are great and I want to gain experiences like that.
Brody Cox
>mfw someone is trying to be edgy but ending up like spewing general faggotry.
Adrian Jenkins
y u haf to be like dis
:^)
>Implying fatalism was ever a bad thing.
Charles Brooks
Served 7 month in the german ground forces, was a great experience. Thinking about rejoining and signing up for a longer time
Leo Evans
Navy. US sailor here. Its more technical and you can learn alot of shit shipboard. Idk if the Royal Navy does aswell, but the Navy has shore billots. Im on my second tour here in Korea.
Jacob Long
>americans
Asher Watson
Career prospects are pretty much non-existent.
I'm considering a shipwright apprenticeship if I fail to get into either.
Qualifications from college were good, but mostly irrelevant.
Asher Young
Ex RN submariner, ignore flag, on holiday.Training is easy but takes ages. Once you get on a unit sea time can vary. If you end up gold crew you will do a lot. If you are 2 crew its a bit better. I left as man power was shit, I was doing 100 hour weeks with 3 hours sleep on every duty andn1 in 2 duties. Pick your branch wisely, don't go warfare unless you love cleaning. Weapons engineering or marine engineering is the way to go. If you want to be lazy and get the least sea time and easiest duties choose Logs supply chain.
Caleb Collins
asthmatic here. I can't apply- tried for the navy and rejected.
Navy seems to be cut more than others, then again I see homeless army vets on the streets where I live too. DESU, Either is a good choice but I'd try for the Navy myself.
Carson Sanders
If you do the Army don't do combat arms unless there is/is going to be a war.
I really regret going into infantry. Most of the time its boring as shit, but deploying was fucking amazing
Landon Price
Wow guess I still come up as a Brit on my phone and not a pasta nog.
Jonathan Bell
In terms of caring for their service members: RAF > Navy > Army
In terms of if you want to actually see "action": Army > Navy > RAF
Really depends what you want to do, though.
Nathan Morris
No, I just hate your subhuman kind
Luke Nguyen
U gonna serve during ww3.
Owen Harris
What roles do you perform?
Do you get to chose which role you want to do or do you get selected for them as you progress?
Grandad was in the submariners from HMS Ganges and got in on requested courses but I'm not sure if this protocol has changed since the 50s.
John Edwards
navy - cause ur a sea people >as my grandfather (navy: Cold War) >Cold War >War
Thomas Long
I have a feeling that the UK is going to be neutral in WW3
Josiah Williams
I was looking into engineering.
What's the difference between weapons engineering and marine engineering?
Jack Ward
There wont be neutrals.
Jeremiah Ramirez
Google Second and Third Cod Wars.
Grandad was on deck when they took aboard the first confirmed casualty.
Gabriel Thomas
You choose your branch. Part way into phase 2 I got the choice of T or V class, I chose T got V. You can also choose drafts on the online JPA system, drafty consistently ignored my choices and went for the opposite.
Sebastian Russell
I just can't see the UK throwing its weight behind anyone having just left your union unless you cunts send zeppelins again
Alexander Murphy
NATO is a completely separate entity than the EU, and it doesn't benefit us to have Europe occupied by anyone else.
Bentley Reed
oh fugg I forgot about NATO wtf brain
Colton Jones
Weapons is more electronic stuff, maintaining weapons systems, repairing electrics in damage control situations. Marine is more mechanical engineering keeping the propulsion running.
Lincoln Powell
My grandfather was in the British army in WW2 too. That was the last war worth dying for so I never joined. You will just be defending mudslimes that hate you too.
Jeremiah Reyes
I've worked IT at a hospital (possibly relevant for electrical) and I've fixed up small boats and restored cars (possibly relevant for marine).
Both sound reasonable.
Do they both pay the same?
Lucas Perez
>Implying WW1/WW2 was worth dying for
Cameron Stewart
Edgy
Jose Turner
this WW1 was a clusterfuck WW2 the wrong side won
Mason Flores
WW1 made sense at the time...
Maybe.
WW2 gave us a lot of new technology which would have taken half a century longer to develop in peacetime.
Eli Long
Would have taken the slower development of technology over the consequences of WW2 for us anyday.
US got mad fucking rich over it, We got fucked up politicians making entirely the wrong calls that left us behind Germany and struggling for decades.
The west has never recovered from WW2 from a sociological standpoint. Lot of good men died leaving behind cowards and a boomer population.
Nicholas Cruz
>WW1 made sense at the time... for maybe a month then it became a mud wrestling match between generals of opposing countries who had no idea of the advances in warfare that had been made check out the great war channel on youtube
Dylan Russell
>WW1 made sense at the time... >WW2 gave us a lot of new technology
Tell that to the millions of brave men who fought and died; I'm sure they'd say their price was worth it.
I watch every The Great War video on the day of release.
I'm under no illusions that WW1 wasn't a bloody mistake. But when technology evolves faster than strategies, the conflict can't end until one side meets it's inevitable attrition.
Most leaders simply accepted that as a grim fact rather than the alternative of negotiating peace terms early on.
Aiden White
With the billions saved by the innovations, I'd argue that it was worth it looking back.
Mason Smith
Under war time, definetly the navy. Cooks, not being hit by shells everyday from enemy lines + their is a much greater chance of survival. During peace time, its up to your own preference.
Parker Robinson
Australian foreing policy expert.
Nathan Rogers
n-no bully
Caleb Reyes
Kaolas are literally the dumbest animal on earth in relation to body mass.
Connor Nelson
The most common way for a sloth to die is to grab their own leg; thinking that it's a branch; and will fall from the tree to their death.
I'd say the sloth trumps the koala for dumb/kg.
Ryan Myers
If you join the army, you would be ok with killing dozens of russians after WW3 will begin?
Alexander Torres
Wow! That's...impressively dumb. Literally Darwin Award, the animal.
Kevin Garcia
they're just high on eucalypt
Julian Garcia
>depriving your countrymen of another warrior in the upcoming race war by letting the military Jew send you to bumfuckistan
Jackson Phillips
Probably. I despise slavs.
I don't think I'd be able to out-cheeki the OG-breeki though.
The Royal Navy will likely need more hands to counter the hundreds of Russian subs at the bottom of the North Atlantic.
Adrian Ward
...
Isaac Evans
how many of those caskets are empty
Connor Reed
my prediction if trump gets elected
UK dodged a bullet by voting to leave
Connor Jones
You need to be shit hot in the RAF and selection is tough, one of my uncles is ex-RAF and they all talk in the same accent.
Another Uncle was Coldstream Guards, for some weird reason he was attached to the Navy after a while (in a group of 4) toured the world.
During WW2 my Grandad was a RM Commando . . .he told me that he was really pissed off as he was sent to London to operate searchlights????
He was going to quit but then he was sent to Egypt had did more exciting things.
Easton Lopez
Go army, navy doesnt do cool shit
Grayson Rogers
also shouldn't you wait until the year is up? diplomatic relations are all up in the air right now, if Hillary gets elected you can bet you'd be risking your life for a truly evil cause
you don't fight because you want to kill people, you fight because of what you believe in.
Aaron Bailey
I'm biased and say the Army
I was going to join the Navy as a submariner for dat £5000 golden hello but I decided army in the end because I prefer the marching, tradition, etc
Oliver Wright
>The navy doesn't do cool shit.
What did he mean by this?
Joshua Allen
> £5000 golden hello
What meaning do these words have please?
Alexander Hall
The RN gives you a bonus £5000 tax free if you join the Submarine Service
Presumably because it's a shit job
Josiah Thomas
>Probably. I despise slavs. alright that's it, fuck you divide and conquer die for globalist regime change faggot
brainless morons like you deserve to be pelted full of 5.45
I'll kill you
I'll fucking kill you
Jeremiah Evans
All of them, they couldn't fit the obese corpses into the coffins
Nicholas Baker
Ahh yes, soldiers.
The male equivalent of prostitutes, disposable beings with close to no value, only female prostitutes are used by the their people, male ones don't get that privilege.
Thomas Scott
Say hello to the MI5 for me, friend.
Your on a list now.
Why so salty anyway? I despise many kinds of people! Not just slavs, you know.
Evan Brown
>can't join army I will have to become a civil servant instead. Fast streamer hopefully.
Levi Watson
because you're the kind of idiot who claims to be "red pilled" and shit and then signs himself up to do the merchants dirty work
why would you risk your life to push multiculturalism and homosexuality
fuck you scum of the earth
Jaxson Wright
Wow, your post here really causes me to engage my frontal lobe!
I must now rethink all my values forthwith, to align with yours!
Haha, kill yourself, spic!
Cameron Edwards
its funny because its true
Blake Carter
>being this triggered by casual racism on a hungarian yak-husbandry forum!
wew ,lad
Brandon Cruz
Yes, because Sup Forums is about actually thinking.
Noah Rivera
lmao American war hero right there, wonder if they'll make a film about him too? The american militarys thinnest male, so brave
Lucas King
I'd go RAF first, wouldn't get into jets but would be happy as a cargo pilot, easy transition to being a 747 captain. Wouldn't do choppers cause no one need em.
Otherwise I'd look for some management role in supply chain, work in logistics after deployment.
Chair Force is sweet.
For combat - Marines, always good to get wet, or Mechanized infantry, better not to ruck it to much so dont go light infantry (save the knee's). Avoid artillery: hearing loss. Tankers just become truck drivers, though could be fun.
Navy is respectable but large ships freak me out, I'd be happy being shot out of the sky but torpedoes terrify me.
When your 18 you never think about your future but you really should pick a MOS that will give you the best career post military. Think of it like a 12 year apprenticeship. Buy a cheap house out in the middle of nowhere, rent it out and spend all your cash on mortgage payments, that way your not fucked when you turn 30 with no civilian skills and living on the dole. Be a specialist like a mechanic/electrician at least if you can't get into officers or higher tier techs like nuclear engineer.
Dont just be a grunt and buy a camero and blow all your money on leave, the only skill you leave with is PTSD.
Noah Rivera
then theres this brave soldier valiantly bringing enough pizza for himself and one other soldier
Joseph Parker
Britain pls no bully, ignore that faggot edgemaster trying to trigger you, we love you guys.
But as to the decision, I'm joining Navy and I've heard from many friends and vets/current serviceman that Navy is the way to go for peacetime. Never in my life have I met an angry Navy vet, they are always happy and talk very fondly of their service. Army usually says it was boring, lots of painting rocks and sitting around in the barracks making sex jokes and thinking about suicide. Not for me desu.
Christopher King
>painting rocks
lmao
I've had to cut a grass pitch with tiny scissors before
Anthony Morgan

Cameron Sanchez
He only had two on the way from the store, so brave, terrible conditions.
Joseph Nguyen
>resorting to spewing memes once confronted with the truth further proving me right that you cant think as an individual and are nothing but a tool >i love enabling Hillary Clinton's foreign policy >like fuck teh joos xDDDD im so redpilled xDDDDDDD
Wyatt Anderson
I don't even know his this happens, seriously. I'm not in yet but I know about PT and the physical standards they hold you to, I guarantee you that guy who have been discharged or sent to one of those fat camps where they work you until you die. He is either an actor/wearing a costume or this is a reservist who has slid WAY under the radar.
Asher Roberts
they're taking literally anybody including trannies
Carson Jackson
I could give two shits about the greater foreign policy I'm involved in, it's not like I can change it personally. If you save your money in a savings account, get all the certs you can, and make your time worth it, you come out with a lot of extra capital, paid college, and are in the best physical condition of your life, as well as job experience/a boosted resume. There is no reason not to enlist my friend.
Charles Lee
I was in the Navy 6 Years, during wartime you'll be gone most months of the year.
Noah Foster
That's not US uniform is it?
Jason Rogers
american military is literally tumblr. Can't wait to see the trannies and degenerates the american military is made of fight the ultranationalist chinese
Ayden Foster
There was a time when Englishmen were renowned for their sense of humour.
Go to bed, lad, you're only grumpy because your tired. The slavs are taking a break from selling cocaine and slacking off work to sleep right now, you should too.
; ^ )
Charles Reed
i wnat to join the army but im an autist also i dont like the idea of shitting my guts out in a box all day
Brandon Rivera
k
Adrian Gray
not a response
Jaxon Fisher
>I could give two shits fuck you, it's "I couldn't", stupid nigger
you're sick in the head if you want to kill people defending their countries from rampant foreign policy that you oppose, in fact you're barely even human hopefully there'll be a war soon and your parents will have to live with the fact that their son died in a pointless war for some cackling bitch lining her pockets in washington
gg
James Smith
I have just graduated uni, and have been offered a job that is 4 days on, 4 days off. I was thinking about joining the reserves for my local infantry regiment as something to do during my 4 days off, and then maybe even transition to full time if I enjoy it and my normal job is a load of wank. Thoughts?
Isaiah Parker
Are you in HCav? If so, what's that like as an experience?
Austin Wood
I think we left behind a lot of our values too, m8. I view the United States as having committed suicide in 1945. I wasn't alive at the time, but I don't think we wanted the war, and many - MANY - people here were simpatico with the Nazis regarding the Jews. Japan wanted to emulate the UK and explore other facets of European imperialism in the Pacific, but booped Hawaii. The European theater was one thing, and it wouldn't have been anything but for the Soviet Union. The Pacific though... our hands were forced to use the atomic bombs, which has made good and evil men's eyes glow with desire. The bombs, lend-lease, the Marshall Plan - it all led to American dominance since 1945. I know that Wilson adopted a policy of the United States flexing its muscle on the world stage around the time and during WWI, but I think our non-interventionist ideals still carried as Europe was destroying itself, until the boiling point. It led to the creation of Israel, our collective, brotherly tentacles getting stuck in the Middle East, which, simply put, has led to radical Islam and the world in which we live today.
Chin up there, Britbong - you may still yet advance with Brexit and the decline of the European Union, and its economic engines of France and Germany. We got your back, just like the wars.
Jayden Jackson
You disappoint your ancestors Brit, they were heavily engaged in colonialism and killing Natives was practically a pastime, now here you are whining about that very same thing. Man up.
Wyatt Rodriguez
4 on 4 off - is a night shift pattern . . .done it for years.
The problem arises when things are 'every Sunday' or something, your shift Pattern will overlap.
Parker Hernandez
>is a night shift pattern is a *Niice shift pattern
