Why does Japan have such a popular culture cult following?

Especially when there are similar cultures, with similar traits in the same geographic location: Taiwan, China; South Korea and Hong Kong.
Why is Japanese culture so popular worldwide?

Anime and video games.
The other shitholes you mentioned don't have them.

China and Korea do?

Both countries usually stay within their own market, except for Korea and their k-pop/k-drama which is why we have goryeoboos

because japan fucked the rest of asia. while japan got uncle sam to rebuild their economy south korea had to contend with the korean war and political instability. taiwan was simply a bunch of refugee's fleeing the mainland and had to start from scratch.

in short, japan had a big headstart, koreans are catching up

Korea does have some pretty based films, I must say.
Some of my favorites being Oldboy, Thirst and Breathless.

So, it was Japan's use of the Anglosphere to disseminate their culture before others economically and administratively could?
Interesting.

>So, it was Japan's use of the Anglosphere to disseminate their culture before others economically and administratively could?
yes and they did it before than everyone
therefore /thread

Japanese traditional culture is honestly not that different from the rest of east Asia, but their modern cultural products are very unique and special, whether you like it or not
Yeah most recent Korean pop culture and cinema industry are pretty great, they have those going to match Japan

I'm satisfied with that answer.
Thank you.

I suppose, it seems Han culture was dominant historically, but contemplatively it is neo-Yamato culture that is dominant in East Asia, at least for now.

Yeah I must admit some Korean movies/shows aren't too bad. Hong Kong used to make pretty good movies from the 70s and 80s, not sure why they stopped being popular.

my favourite is Hard day, I also loved The strangers or the chaser, I don't find old boy so great compare to them

Anime, manga, video games,
Also Japan's traditional culture is extremely deep and strong. If you look at Korea for example their traditional culture isn't so important because they a huge part of their history being colonized by china or japan.
Also Chinese culture should be competing but during the cultural revolution of Mao, everything that was related to old china was seen as bad so communist destroyed a big chunk of the traditional culture and they re still limiting culture a lot. That's why people who re interested in studying Chinese traditional culture will go to Taiwan usually because that's where they tried to prevent the this culture from disappearing.

I always wondered this OP. Maybe I am biased, but I grew up around all types of east Asians (particularly Korean) and while they are nice enough people, I think westerns really have rose tinted glasses towards oriental cultures. Asians seem to be even more materialistic than the west, and the average weeb probably knows more about their history than they do.

They do make and value good food though, this is no meme.

It confuses me why everyone glorifies east Asian cultures. Not just the weebs but also people who fall in love with everything buddist and light incents and shit in their own home. Very few asian people actually do this shit today.

That being said, I don't get the negativity towards muslim and south Asian/Middle eastern cultures. From my personal experience they seem far more oriental and traditional than east asians. Maybe I am biased though, as we don't have tons here, but the ones I have met have genuinely been really humble and warm people. Sure they have some odd quirks, but personality wise they are really warm people - a clear contrast to east Asians.

Japan appreciated cute little girls and understand 2D more than any other nation.
かわいいは、正義。

It also happens to have the best language in the world.

Most Asians don't really practice religion. My parents had a little shrine but they never did shit with it, they only lit incense once in a while.

>I don't find old boy so great compare to them
Korean cinema in general is just pretty good.
A reprieve from the ubiquitous cinematic trite of Hollywas.

Exactly. I always cringe when I go to a white persons house and they have incense and shit everywhere.

The west has a warped concept of religion, due to taking sandnigger religions out of their historical context and using them as tools or war and control. In countries where native religions still exist alongside a modern setting, the elements of worship have largely stayed as they have for hundreds of years, as cultural/social rituals and nods to history. This is how those sandnigger religions functioned long before they became tools of kings and empires and involved in cross continental nonsense.

Theology and supernatural bullshit is largely a more modern element of religion, one which was taken to extremes by extremely tribal European nations and then later to an even more tribal context of North American society.

It is more accurate to state that the west doesn't practice religion; it practices tribal war.

I think this goes for any idealisation of a culture.
Often pertaining to historical aspects and treating them as current, when they're simply an antiquated nostalgic memory.

>It also happens to have the best language in the world.
How so?

Most beautiful written and spoken aspects compared to all other extant languages.

Japan had it much before them. Did you watch Korean anime and played Chinese vidyas in the earky 80's? I'm pretty sure you didn't.

True, I like the literary and linguistic contrast between keigo and tameguchi Japanese.

I want to say yes, just to be able to defend the standpoint, but both you, I and the others know that it wouldn't be truthful.

Agreed. Oldboy is pretty GOAT.

Man, I wish I could erase my memory and watch Ichigo again

youtube.com/watch?v=Ufss5ot_vGE

I have the same feels about Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo.

People don't really know about Asia in general, especially old generations, they don't know that asian can be rly materialistic or racist to western standard. Are you really sure you don't know why people tend to don't like middle eastern culture ? Can't you think of one thing ?

I think that what most people are impressed by with Japan is the discipline and the strong history, that's the same reason why Japanese often picture Nazi Germany and Aristocratic France with some clear complaisance.
I think we are intrigued by the fact that they push everything to the extreme, and also that there is this weird mix of tradition and very advanced technology.

KCinema is rly great, just saw a film when I was in Korea it was called taxi driver I think, was great, but I think it wasn't showing outside of Korea because it's about Korean civil was so it probably doesn't interests many people.

This is interesting. I would like to add, Occidental and Oriental philosophy have very different foundations, Occidental philosophy as we conventionally define it starts with Socrates, it's goal is to find the truth through a definition of concepts from which you can make deductions.
Chinese philosophy is way more blunt, the distinction between philosophy and spirituality is way more blurry (also religion in Asia is more an individual/social act, they re really suspicious toward organised religions) and the goal of Chinese philosophy isn't necessary to find the truth but to manage social life. Foreigners sometimes call out Japanese ppl as hypocrites but in eastern Asian values, lying or being hypocrite can be advocated to save your face. Confronting a Korean/Japanese is extremely rude and useless most of the time.

>KCinema is rly great, just saw a film when I was in Korea it was called taxi driver I think, was great, but I think it wasn't showing outside of Korea because it's about Korean civil was so it probably doesn't interests many people.
I find is very interesting that they take such an interesting in what could be considered 'boring' by mainstream Western cinematography.
For instance Hanzawa Naoki, in Japan and it's plot wouldn't find much traction in the Western mainstream.

>Oriental philosophy
The high-level equilibrium trap:
>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-level_equilibrium_trap
How the shift from Taoism to Confucianism and an efficient resource supply chain stalled their technological advancements, despite being more technologically advanced than the West nascently.

>Confronting a Korean/Japanese is extremely rude and useless most of the time.
It sounds like having an East Asian wife would be hell.

I hear you but I think it is rose tinted glasses. I mean countries such as Saudi Arabia/Qater/UAE/Egypt (Cairo mainly) hold very traditional beliefs while have modernized economy's. Why are people not impressed with them like with East Asian countries?

I know thinking about it the media plays a HUGE role in this, but I am more speaking from personal experience. Bear in mind you live in a country with far more middle eastern people, and I live in a country with far more east Asian influence, so our experiences will be different.

A lot of the Sup Forums stuff around Islam is rubbish (as with most subjects). If I absorbed everything the media told me I would hate the middle east as well, but from a personal experience I have found them to be more respectful than westerners/Asians.

>ywn have a threesome with them

It's a country that it's hard to hate for foreigners.
If anime came from france or germany for example I wouldn't watch it because they're enemies. In fact everysingle european country is an enemy of Portugal,Japan is too far to be a threat so we don't mind.

>Saudi Arabia/Qater/UAE/Egypt
>Why are people not impressed with them like with East Asian countries?
Oil and the Anglosphere.
Japan didn't have oil, so they exported something else (their culture).
That's more impressive, to be honest, than a resource that the modern world hungers for as its very lifeblood.

>Saudi Arabia/Qater/UAE/Egypt (Cairo mainly) hold very traditional beliefs while have modernized economy's
Probably because westerners don't view it as ""exotic"" enough and some of their beliefs are backwards as fuck

Their food and cooking is shit.Their eating habits are bad aswell.Like eating raw fish...
They also have an absolutely obnoxious lack of knowledge about western culture and actually believe most steriotypes of each european country like british being gentlemans, french being blonde blue eyed royal like people, russians being all perfume and flowers with blonde women living happily and also being sexually promiscuous and italians being moustached pasta eating motherfuckers that like to be overemotional

I mean, we can say that about westerners too. Most westerners don't know shit about Asian culture either. They probably think it's ninja samurai samsung temple noodle land over there

Except when they pronounce foreign objects. It's cute and cringy.

Whiteu dogu.

Whenever I see a Brititsh flag I think they are a gentleman too though!

You're basically British, you can't say that.

I fucking hate it when people think Brits are posh all and do a retarded, cringy, mocking accent

I don't understand what you mean with asian movies

Interesting article. Well oriental philosophy indeed brought very stable forms of governments.

>Confronting a Korean/Japanese is extremely rude and useless most of the time.
Meh it really depends. They are very straight forwards, they want a guy who will make a good living (that's why they pass as more materialistic but that's just a cultural thing, parents would never approval of a guy with a low income and without the approval there is no way most asian girl would go further, and anyway they themselves are raised looking for financial stability because Asia is still very patriarchal.
There is also way less room for excuses, pity is a very Christian thing it doesn't really exist in Asia. My Korean teacher who is a woman started to ramble about some weird shit today, she told us about 돈키호테 돈 for ;money, 키 for the height so being tall, 호 for some shit probably handsome and 테 for being good in bed, and said that was the word girls use for the perfect man or smtg, she was half jocking half serious, kinda scary but not surprising, there is the same thing with Japanese girls it's smtg like Kawai, rich and smtg.(serious sociologist of japan partly blame japan's declining birth rate on japanese girl's exigences being too high because most Japanese after the crisis would never be able to meet these criterium). You would have a quite exigent gf but on the other hand she will also do her part, her body won't turn into shit even when she is old (30+), she won't be too individualistic and do many things for you (organise stuff for when you are together, taking stuff like birthday very seriously, kinky stuff, etc... but will also ask you to be very committed on that (tfw got dumped cause i wasnt active enough in organising holidays). Now this is a generality and it's very difficult to hold such broads statements when their culture is changing so quickly but it's still very true even for youngsters

I am not gentlemanly enough to return to the homeland though.

#>They also have an absolutely obnoxious lack of knowledge about western culture and actually believe most steriotypes of each european country like british being gentlemans, french being blonde blue eyed royal like people, russians being all perfume and flowers with blonde women living happily and also being sexually promiscuous and italians being moustached pasta eating motherfuckers that like to be overemotional
Thats pretty much the old romantic stereotype everyone outside of Europe has about Europe, not only Asians, and that image is dying out there too except maybe for old people

because you are weeb

They have modernized economy but not modernised culture. Saudi Arabia is notorious for having middle age like laws. I don't hate on these countries but I mean that it's easy to see why people would hate them (being wrong or not). Also it's important to know that Japanese culture's exportation wasn't an happy little accident there was a will to expend their cultural influence. Same for Kpop/esport in SK this is a governement's will. Now it was more targeted towards other Asian country rather than towards Occident.
Anyway we agree that this is mostly a question of how x or x are portrayed in the media.

Anime, cars, video games, electronics, and the state it was in back in the 80s

They're all as terrible as each other

Me too, we're all actually rather rude.

Trust me, you'll do fine.

On Chinese culture part. It's not only the Mao era. But also the none stop northern nomads invasion through out the countries reshaped the culture a lot as well. Look at clothing alone, Kimono use to be called "吳服", aka "clothes from Wu" one of the three kingdoms that's closest to acient Japan. Both countries have identical style until the Liao/Jin invasion and China being taken over by Mongolia. Then the Chinese style and Korean style become identical due to the mongol influence. Later the Manchu/ Qing invasion completely changed the style once again and made Qipao the "traditional Chinese cloth" until today.

Because it fills the international pedo and trap niche

Mongols ruined everything

>This coming from Germany.
Hilarious.

The real question is why is Hanbok so ugly ;_;

t-they are nice t-tho

> From Germany

Elaborate

>Live in the slavshit corner of Europe
>Have Korean gf

I fucking love how our universities attract qts from every corner of the world

thank you France.
maybe French people are best understood Japanese culture.also many of us love french culture.

I like Japanese clothes better.

This thread is now officially a triditional qt thread

why can't I get Korean gf

Korean traditional costumes are pretty nice though, they're basically somewhere between Japanese and Qing China in style

You do know that Germany is renowned as the pervert capital of Europe?
>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography_in_Europe#Germany
How old are you?

stop it rrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Bleach her good, user.
Bleach her good.

>Korean gf
>not Korean qt gf

Un oh... Is she pre-surgery? user... You should start saving up for her now

As one disgusting 25+ year-old neckbeard to other, you can do it too user. Just dont be grossly overweight and you'll eventually luck out with a qt.

She even came over when I had a fever and took care of my room / me while I was agonizing in the bed and I've only known her for 3 months (as well as cooked food for me). Calls me 3-4 times a day too that was annoying at first but now it feels like someone else than my mother cares about how I'm doing.

If I can be this lucky while looking like a 4/10 Ukranian truck driver (and she's at least a 7/10) there's no way in hell others cant.

t. neckbeard with zero self-respect who just knows how to talk good

really? at least a 7/10? show a pic and you'll get a real answer.

She's a qt, would post pics but I'm at work (nightshift as well)

don't post pics of her here

I wouldnt, having seen how militarised autism even tracked down Shia's fucking flags in the middle of nowhere across the globe based on wind direction and star constellations

Was just meaning to uplift some of the sad fucks here and see the responses while I'm literally doing fuckall at my workplace (which incidentally has every other social media site blocked except for this one)

This.
I hope you're telling the truth, brah.
If so, well done, sir, well done!

I'm a weakass chink boi. I knew a Korean girl but I was too much of a wuss and only saw her in like two classes

Japanese and France have special ties, they re closer than most people actually believe.

Korean grills are real cuties, miss my kgf. Gj on the catch

I think that Korean traditional costumes are overrated.

horuhoru

fuck off netouyo

You should've dripped some of your coconut milk into her rice cooker.

I am not a netouyo, but there is no doubt that Korean ethnic clothing is overestimated.

kek

Japanese traditional cloths are overrated

It is unfair to compare rich people and commoners.

A-any m-more?

>Why is Japanese culture so popular worldwide?
world cares only about anime and videogames. The rest of their culture is deeply inferior to european one. Unlike the european classics, no one is going to pay 1k$ to listen to an orchestra playing some traditional japanese music. If other cunts can't offer something better than just blend asian cultural heritage, they are not going to capture any attention.

That is someone's grandmother

And so is likely to be many women you have jerked, or fucked.
How does that make you feel?

If you are comparing the commoners of Japan and Korea, you should use this picture.

Thank you west for giving us savages clothing and civilization.

Oh... my... more, I must have more!
We take back civilisation, we're sorry!

The picture is not an ordinary people but a sea woman.

why are they so black? Is it dirt or is it tan from being outside

no, aussies are brits that were expelled for emphasizing only the last part of the word gentleman.

Filthy peasants, I hope you're the descendant of a great clan.

Our women are so slutty they even masturbate in public. Please come to japan to please their wet pussy with your big white cock!

I-Is t-t-this a r-real occurrence?!
