It's not a Brazilian thing specifically. People in general know about American tv. Look at the instagram accounts of any actress, actor, or musician who made it in America, a lot of the posts will be spanish, portuguese, french, arabic, or chinese.
You never see any comments in German though, because we all learned English in school and we speak it better than a lot of you guys do :)

I know a couple people who are from Brazil because they were part of my college's student exchange program. They were all normal, one is gay (but closeted in Brazil because he'd be murdered by monkey-people) who likes Marvel movies and has a huge crush on Eddie Redmayne. But gay guys everywhere are obsessed with celebrities.
I think this is a case of a country full of monkeys that just recently (as in the last 10-15 years) became a part of the interconnected world. They see all these clean, beautiful, rich people in Hollywood and they are seduced by that lifestyle and those people.
We're more jaded in America. Celebrity culture has been hugely prevalent in all forms of media (tv, newspaper/magazine, radio) for decades. Sure, as you can see on Sup Forums we have people posting every picture of Bella Thorne, Millie, Finn, etc just like they had in the past for Zooey, Miley, Summer, Selena, but that seems like a new phenomenon for third world countries. It's the same thing for poo-in-loos. You see BRs and Poos commenting on every youtube interview, every celeb tweet, every porn video, it's hilarious and a little nuts.
