Aside from one being fascist and the other being communist, can somebody give me a quick rundown on these two? What does Taiwan have that prevents China from finally unifying them?
Aside from one being fascist and the other being communist, can somebody give me a quick rundown on these two...
Taiwan wasn't conquered because communist China had shit for a navy. After getting a navy, the international recognition of the RoC/Taiwan made it impossible for the communists to invade.
Geography and demography
but there is less and less international recognition of Taiwan. you can only say china has a shit navy if compared to the US. But still their navy is pretty strong as a defense due to their submarines.
>you can only say china has a shit navy if compared to the US.
I'll just restate what I said earlier:
The communists had a shitty navy during the civil war. After getting a navy, it became political suicide to invade Taiwan.
You can't really invade anybody anymore to annex them, and fucked f anybody would let a country like china aggressively expend
Like they would get embargoed as fuck and they basically rely on exports
Russia did it a few years ago and nobody did anything.
that was an exception because Crimea was wrongly made apart of Ukraine and is ethnically and culturally Russian.
>What does Taiwan have that prevents China from finally unifying them?
The friendship of the US Navy.
taiwan was not conquered after ww2 because the KMT were aligned with the USA. after ww2, the PRC had no air force or navy, if the united states defended taiwan PRC would've auto-loss.
so they waited and waited, at this point the PRC has enough naval and air power to take taiwan and the USA probably wouldn't object. but it would be very complicated if they did. so they are choosing a status quo scenario where they will simply wait until economic and cultural ties bind them.
isn't Taiwan ethnically and (mostly) culturally Chinese?
>quick rundown
They get separated for some dumb political reason
>What protect Taiwan?
USA and commies's dumb brain
There was a war because of it.
>Chinese
>ethnicity
Taiwanese are mostly Hakka. People just lump the Southern Chinese into the Han Chinese blob, but that's due to Communist Chinese propaganda and policies of extinguishing regional ethnic identities and absorbing them into the all-purpose blob that is the "Han Chinese", which is a completely modern creation. Why? Because fewer regional identities and ethnicities equals less regional strife and fewer independence movements (i.e. Catalonia). In the past, even among the different Southern Chinese ethnicities there were regional wars and shit less than 200 years ago, such as the Hakka-Cantonese conflicts which go waaaaaay back. The Chinese originally called themselves the Hua people (Southern Chinese used to call themselves the "Tang people"), and that identity was based purely on culture, not ethnicity, because China has always been a massive jambalaya of ethnicities and cultures, so to claim that all of those were a single ethnicity (called the "Han Chinese") is the biggest lie in the history of ethnography. Imagine if 100 years later, all the different ethnicities in the US were to suddenly claim that we were all the exact same peoples since the dawn of time. Ridiculous, right? Way too much of Chinese history is whitewashed in communist propaganda, nationalism, and Han Chinese chauvinism. I await the day that the communists are overthrown and open-minded, truth-seeking Chinese are free to give an honest assessment of their identity and history.
>>Taiwanese are mostly Hakka
>>The Hakka population in Taiwan is around 4.6 million people today.[41] Hakka people comprise about 15 to 20% of the population of Taiwan and form the second-largest ethnic group on the island
?
Yeah, that's because the non-Hakka are already brainwashed into thinking they're something called "Han Chinese".
This might sound retarded but its really due to these small ships. The US Navy in 2002 ran a simulation (MC02) where Blue team armed with an entire carrier group attacked a third world country armed with a navy that was armed with only very small ships and outdated ship to ship cruise missiles . After the first barrage of missiles the carrier group's electronic sensors were overwhelmed and 16 ships were sunk including the carrier. Missiles were also fired from land as the carrier group was attacking there as well. you should take a look if u want more detail its quite interesting. Essentially Taiwan's defensive strategy is somewhat similar to that. However, China has an outdated Navy consisting of larger ships, whereas Taiwan has smaller more technologically advanced ships as well as high tech cruise missiles. Its an economical and effective deterrent to any sea invasion
but if the non-Hakka view themselves as, in your words, 'han chinese', how does that make 'Taiwanese mostly hakka' if the non-hakka outnumber them?
that makes no sense at all.
What part of did you not understand?
i just explained it. by your statement 'Taiwanese are mostly Hakka', means that most of Taiwan is occupied by Hakka people. but Wikipedia says they only make up 15-20% of the population, which doesn't make them the largest ethno group. even if all the non-Hakka people 'falsely' group themselves up as 'han Chinese' that still supposes that they must be a different ethnic group if they aren't 'han Chinese' so at least 80% of the population doesn't identify as 'Hakka' so that means 'Taiwanese are mostly Hakka' is patently false because 80% of the island doesn't identity as Hakka.
You're fucking stupid. Learn how to read between the lines and come to your own conclusions you robotic autistic faggot. I bet you would make a damn good sheep for the PRC.
also
>Wikipedia
wew, you got triggered fast lol.
I'm Taiwanese and I need to tell you being Hakka is not necessarily a good thing because of the Hakka-Hoklo divide. And Taiwan people are mostly Hoklo, some of the older generation get offended if u ask if they are Hakka
>They get separated for some dumb political reason
>not wanting to live in a Maoist shithole is a "dumb political reason"
yeee
That is 100% incorrect.
Taiwanese refer to themselves as Hanren (Han people) just like mainlanders. The difference is nationality.
>what does Taiwan have that prevents China from unifying them.
A hardcore freedom fighting badass like yours truly
Learn how to admit you're wrong dumbass. You just look even stupider if you pretend not to get it
Kill yourself you fucking idiot. You acted like you knew everything about Taiwan and then got BTFO by a Taiwanese user.
This is why the amerimongrel meme exists.
>at this point the PRC has enough naval and air power to take taiwan
This is a troll, right?
nope, its real. unless taiwan has a navy and airforce better then japans, there is no contest.
True if he's trying to say limited to Taiwan army only
Not true if USA will save democracy and freedom once again in Asia like what they did in middle east
what do you mean? the War in Donbass began as a result of 2014 Ukrainian coup, not the Crimea annexation.
It's not an exception even if Trump doesn't give a damn. After the USSR disolved Ukraine was left with some nukes it agreed to give up in exchange for assurances it would be protected from Russian aggression by the West and specifically by the US. Now, obviously Crimea wasn't something to warrant war with Russia, especially considering the eventual nuclear scenario, but the West is backed into a corner in terms of making annexation fail or else no nation on earth will ever voluntarily agreed to disarm again.
This isn't just nukes but down the line could mean biological WMDs as well, there's a lot more at stake in here than whether Russia's dumb fuck casus bellis has some measure of historical merit. It isn't simply about slapping them on the wrist over Ukraine, that would only encourage them to eventually encroach further.
Is the US going to start WWIII over the Baltics? What if it's set up as Russian minorities looking for self determination? This is bs, why would any nation opt out of WMDs if the international community will do shit? And once everyone starts arming what happens next?
to be honest, even if America decided to defend taiwan i don't think they could stop the PRC from taking taiwan. not because militarily they are weaker but because America has a weakness when it comes to fighting foreign wars with high casualties. if the war continues for years without a clear outcome it becomes politically hard to continue fighting. i'd expect total war between China and USA to have massive casualties.
Asymetrical warfare. Most people forget that a larger force is more complex to handle, numbers aren't as effective as it was in the past due to advances in Technology. I was in the ROC Marines for 5 years as an officer and the plan was to use high tech cruise missiles with anti-air support to destroy the invasion fleet. Invading an island like Taiwan is an monumental task. an example would be Operation Overlord. It was difficult even with Naval and Air superiority, even if China does have those two things they would still take massive casualties from invading Taiwan without using nukes.
Politically speaking, the Taiwanese people are not the biggest fans of union with the Chinese. In addition, the government of Taiwan is on good terms with the US and other Western trade partners with China, which eliminates the PRC's option of a military conflict in the area, as it would undoubtedly produce sanctions against their aggressively export-oriented economy.
Throw in the fact that the US holds naval postings on the island, and that South Korea and Japan would both hop in with each of their respective militaries, there wouldn't be much for them to capitalize on. What does RoC even have that China could make money on? Most of their economy is service oriented, and a military junta isn't going to be able to make any money for their state there.
Finally, add in the fact that pissing in a US satellite state is going to open up China's own satellite states (North Korea and certain Southeast Asian ones) to US intervention, which would cause more damage to their own industrial economy as it would raise the price of instrumental raw materials such as rare earth minerals, energy resources, and certain types of foodstuffs.
All in all, they have no reason to piss off the global political stage for Chinese unity.
>that clusters to the south
REEEEE
Ch*nk has no rights
China is more fascist than Taiwan tbqh. Just look what they have done to Tibetians, Uighurs or Mongols from Inner Mongolia.
>Aside from one being fascist
Describe what fascism is and its policies
I'm curious why you think Taiwan is fascist
Taiwan used to have a facist government under the KMT during the early 20th century when China was ruled by Chiang Kai Shek. He carried on this policy when he retreated to Taiwan. Also we use the Roman salute when swearing in the president and other civil servants
In this case, fascism is this guy en.wikipedia.org
While modern day fascism in Taiwan is a far cry from what it was during the 1940s, it is suffice to say that the same can be said for communism in China.
They could, but PRC would stop them too, which might, in the end help Taiwan or ROC
PRC is just waiting for the time to come when Taiwan tries to be independent for real (shitpost in forum and shout on street doesn't count) and or international environment doesn't give a fuck about Taiwan anymore
What makes you think I don't want unifying? I don't want to be your satellite puppet state anymore, Americunts. Moreover, you poison us with your disgusting, filthy fag marriage and sexual liberation is enough to make me to HATE you my guts!!
Also Taiwan is not fascist, it's more like a "fluid genders faggotory HIV wonderland with fascist character", aka Faggotnazi, the opposite of "Socialism with Chinese characters".
Nothing, they both look the same and they are both uncivilized.
why are French so arrogant?
Nice divide and conquer propaganda, faggot
The US abandoned the KMT because they thought it was a lost cause. That's why they lost the mainland.
Is this pic real or just propaganda
If true, lol @ taiwan people and their sexpats
OK, 美江
I don't care if you are roleplaying or not, but i just couldn't stop keking when i saw actual ppl getting mad over gay marriage, thanks for putting a smile on my face :)
