>EW reported the following regarding the current status of True Detective season 3:

>EW has exclusively learned that creator Nic Pizzolatto has penned at least the first two episodes for a potential third edition of the acclaimed anthology crime drama.

>We have also learned that Emmy-winning writer-producer David Milch — the mind behind dramas such as Deadwood and NYPD Blue — is coming on board to work with Pizzolatto.

Seems too cliche. I like the casting but I'd change up the backgrounds a bit.

Please don't. After that horrible season 2, god damnit.

Its cliche because the police attracts those types.

Michael Keaton and Gary Oldman.

Two detectives getting close to retirement. And something like their past catching up to them. Base it somewhere like Portland or Colorado cause I don't know...nice scenery

>set in Scottish highlands, or just somewhere foggy as fuck with loads of creepy churches

>Stars Brendan gleeson as an old old of touch cop and unironally idris Elba as a tough london cop sent up for fucking up a case

>deals with weird cultish small towns, obsessive religious guys and them calling idris Elba a nigger etc

the only reason i'd watch is because David Fucking Milch. while i hope Pizzolatto has a good second act with the Perry Mason reboot and future projects, i highly doubt TD will be any good with him showrunning it. as for story - i've been saying for a while now that they should go the Bad Lieutenant route with season 3. a super corrupt cop who digs himself deeper and deeper into a criminal mess while also trying to solve a heinous crime. hire someone out of left field for the lead role. say, someone like, fuck, why not Mickey Rourke?

Mel Gibson

>setting: new england over the course of a year

>Plot:
a senile old man in a nursing home claims that he was was a great, uncaught serial killer in the 70s and 80s. Though initially brushed off, his accusations come to light as true when he gives information that leads to several shallow graves of missing women from around that time around the Massachusetts coast. Disturbingly, several more bodies are discovered to be of disappeared women and children from the past few years while the old man was in a nursing home. It comes to light that, at one point during his active years, he worked with a younger man and taught him all he knew. Now its up to two missing person detectives, and forensic psychologist to both find the new killer, while interviewing the old man for clues, who may not be as senile as they thought

>cast
R Lee Ermey as the police cheif
Michael pitt and Kelsey grammer as the detectives
rooney mara as the forensic psychologist
Bookeem woodbine as a known violent sex offender and potential suspect, protected by his parents
naomie harris as his sister, a former drug addict due to from the events of her brothers past, who believes he is the killer and is willing to break ties with her overly protective family to prove it

>Nic Pizzolatto has penned at least the first two episodes
dropped

didnt HBO come out and admit he fucking bombed the second season? With Careys script for IT its a miracle these two made season 1 as good as it once. Maybe something like to negatives balancing each other out

>David Milch

WHAT IN THE CUNTING FUCK

Going from having the worst writing I can remember in a show like this, to literally the best writer for TV.

Pizzolatto taking his time working on the scripts is a good thing... David Milch being on board is even better.

But if pizzatagliatelli wrote the first 2 episodes then Milch had nothing to do with them, unless he edits them himself and starts from scratch.

yeah, that's underwhelming. however, with Milch helping him out, i think maybe Pizz can craft an entertaining show. Milch is a fucking master and it's become more and more apparent that Pizz needs a mentor or at least a talented collaborator to produce entertaining stuff.

surprised the fuck out of me, too. then i remember reading an old quote where Milch praised TDs1 years ago. plus, Milch needs the work, right?

Milch could probably do wonders just reigning in Pizza's writing. His problem is he has too many ideas, and no real concept of how to put a script together.

But yeah ideally just throw all the shit out and let Milch do every screenplay.

i would see that

>Horrible
Mediocre yeah, but Vince Vaughn killed it in the last few episodes and Collin Farrell was great all around

ADAPT CALEB CARR'S THE ALIENIST FOR TRUE DETECTIVE 3!!!

...

i want snowy season

Yaassssss Reddit slaaaay

Sounds good desu, I don't think the?e Yanks would fund it though

>JUST SMILE AND BLOOOOOOOOW ME

Wonder who Milch's folksy narrator character will be...

Pizza needs to be blacklisted.

>steamy deep south countryside
>shadowy, urban metropolis
>cold, snowy plains

Could work

Milch is literally insane. I don't know much about Pizza but it seems like he could also suffer from lack of focus when he hasn't been struck with a super clear idea. I'm keen to see what Milch brings to the table but more likely than not we'll just get a bunch of knotted christmas lights of a season.

you guys realize that this is just for writing right?

neither milch nor pizzolatto has ever directed.

they'll get the scripts right with these 2 and then bring in a known director to do all 8 episodes.

No shit dumbass.

How rude.

So Fargo?

FROM THE DUSTY MASON
A MOVING SHADOW FALLS

ACROSS THE SHINING SAND

AND THE SUN WILL BE MY HAND

Yeah, it could be great. I would be like The Thing.

nice pasta but TD is all about grand conspiracies and this sounds like a lifetime made for tv movie

Yeah but less playful.

Why can't it be season 1.2?
They're gonna cast a nigger, screen cap this

so long as it ends with the line "truly they were...true detectives" ill be ok

we all know marty was the true detective of season 1, who was the true detective of season 2? Caspere?

>all these suggestions for the two leads
Are you fucking retarded? Even after the success that was the first season all he could get was Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams. After the disaster that was season 2 imagine the kind of actors that'll take these roles
>season 3 starring Tom Green and the younger son from that Fox comedy that lasted 5 episodes in 2009

>scene is set just off of i-45 southbound about 15 minutes out of Galveston
>brown flat field of marshy reeds stretches out a mile and ends with a shoreline
>to the left you can see the rifineries of Texas city billowing out thick white clouds
>Texas trooper cars with their light on parked on the side of the highway
>marker tape is set around the body of an Eastern European woman kneeling with her back cut Blood Eagle
>this girl is the 147th body found along that stretch of highway but she's special because of her ritualized murder
>John Goodman shows up to investigate with Jake Gyllenhaal who is his partner he has been training
>cuts to Whisper's Canaret off of the strand
>Danny Devito is half in the bag watching a fat stripper when he notices her C-section scar
>starts complaining and asking where the good whores were from last night
>makes a scene and the bouncer kicks him out
>he stumbles down the alleyway around the side of the building to take a piss
>next to the dumpster he noticies a white gold ring and picks it up and examines it
>starts to read engraving on inside of the ring and the into song plays
>youtu.be/armB0TIPurw

Spotted to dogshit eating pleb. None of the leads were jewish in s2. Really spikes the old drink.

>None of the leads were jewish in s2. Really spikes the old drink.

I honestly can't remember a single movie where voodoo was convincingly terrifying.

Because it isn't.

REDD IT

It's never been done right it's always >voodoo dolls >Spoopy chanting black lady

I thought we all realised that after s2 Fukunaga was the genius behind True Detective. That and the fact Pizza mostly plagarised S1.

Next youre going to tell me water is wet

This show needs less characters this time around and better directors.

loved season 1 AND season 2

kurt russell and viggo mortensen

>CAST IT

I liked season 2

nah kelsey grammar and mike myers

i liked it. not gonna deny the writing was pretty weak at points though, especially the dialogue. rushed and outsourced.

it didn't have as much of a natural feel as s1, probably because the creator is from the south. felt like he just really wanted to create a modern LA noir, but the plot was flawed and out of place.

Takes place in Nassau, revolving tourist exploitation and drug running.

>TD1 Vin Diesel as a criminally connected cop that's in a physically abusive relationship with his wife.
>TD2 Dan Stevens as a career lowlife hustler who pimps girls.
>TD3 Toni Collette who is a happily married mother/wife to a loving husband that works in robbery/homicide. Catch? She's a sociopath and but the tick of her narcissism makes her desire to do right by her family absolute.
>Story revolves around prostitutes going missing and being found murdered ritually.
>Vin's wife gets offed by the SK because she was moonlighting as a high end escort (he met her this way, but believed she'd given up the game). There's a six month time skip after her murder, which takes place in Ep 2 or 3.
>Toni gets the case to help manage Vin's emotions and because the local wiseguys pull strings to have him brought in. Her sociopathy is a slow reveal through characters in words but is never outright discussed.
>Giancarolo Esposito as a cartel enforcer that kills people ritually
>Wes Chatham as Dan Stevens muscle that has slept with half the girls, he and Vin get into a massive brawl fight halfway through season on the level of They Live.
>Dan Stevens and the detectives don't meet until halfway through season but their stories are connected.
>Dan Stevens character is a very well put together criminal that has almost no public exposure whose existence is unknown to most.
>Vin's wife's murder turns out to be a mafia retaliation made to look like a copy cat murder that he blames Stevens for
>Bob Odenkirk is the serial killer but this isn't revealed until the end
>Geno Segers in an enforcer role that has a falling out with Esposito and has a Raid style final fight with Vin and Chatham
>Kurt Russell small part as a professional robber that runs afoul of pretty much everybody and just tries to GTFO (and does) after a Reservoir Dogs final show down between all major players.

Replace Esposito with Alfred Molina and Odenkirk with Steve Carell and we got ourselves a winner.

Only in my wildest dreams would this come true.

>starts rambling about jews out of fucking nowhere
>not Sup Forums
LMAO

im the OP of that pasta, I just like to post it every now and then with a few changes ive made and see how people like it

The acting was decent for what little they had to work with, but the plot was so bad and misguided it makes you wonder if the first season was a lucky mistake.
All people wanted was another contemporary Gothic-horror themed mystery that exposed the underbelly of the society that it took place in. Instead we got some terrible attempt at neonoir that tried to be a detective story and a gangster story and half a dozen character studies all while stringing people along with the worst imaginable whodunnit reveal conceivable.
Nic Pizzolatto is a hack who lucked out until he proves otherwise.

I'm from St Louis and I'd love it if they started a season in the city, regarding all the blacks killing each other, but because of some bizarre deaths, police investigation has to bring in Missouri state and FBI as the occurrences start leading down the Mississippi river, into the rural parts of the midwest as it because the south. Like a modern day Huckleberry Finn.
I don't know if it'd be too hammy, but climax building to the delta would be kind of cool.

>with the worst imaginable whodunnit reveal conceivable.
I can't even remember who did what, god what a clusterfuck of a plot

Mel Gibson and Jon Voight as two ICE agents that work to deport as many illegal spics as possible in Trump's America.

fuck what people want

plot and writing were very rough and the move to LA felt impulsive, and they couldn't make up for it with a decent story

Chucky had vodoo involved. but that movie wasnt scare because of it

i liked everything except casting kelsy gramer. i think hes a great actor but i couldnt see him fitting into it. Plus as much as I liked R Lee Ermy. I'm not sure how well the guy looks now. I feel like he was pushing 70 when he was in texas chainsaw and that was like 10 years ago... Hed probably be more believable as the senile old man

From memory the murdered guy and another guy did a jewelry heist and the owners where killed, while the their children were in the shop. Murdered guy was guilty and adopted them (legal? Unlikely) then for reasons I forgot the two kids, now adults, tortured and killed their adopted father for money and revenge.
There was no reason for the crow costume other than that it looked cool and to dupe people into thinking that it was going to be a cult plot.

they were casperes kids and he fucked his own daughter

Victorian England
Two detectives from Scotland Yard are paired up to investigate murders
Jack the ripper+street crime
East India company intrigue
Heart of Darkness plot, thuggy cult comes back to UK imported by converted officers to make India their own fiefdom

>oldman as the fire and brimstone imperial redcoat that just delivers racial tirades every episode until he dies
>ralph fiennes as detective 1
>tom wilkinson as detective 2
>hardy, cumberbatch, cavill, pegg, irons, laurie, branagh, firth. any of them in any combination as the villians who slaughtered so much they took it back home and practiced it there.
>secret society fad was all the rage back then with crowley and all
>include lots of historical figures

yeah Ive kicked around a few ideas just for shits and giggles. originally I have Bookeem woodbines' family be in organized crime but that was too close to the verger family in Hannibal

John Lovitz and Dana Carvey as the detectives

I would unironically watch this if they don't go fedora tier.

Mads Mikkelsen and Viggo Mortensen

...

fuck off with this taboo knockoff

>not had a black guy as a main character yet

It's happening

Replace Kelesy with Mel and it's KINO

I don't give a shit if they don't get Cary back. Obviously Pizzalatte can't construct shots worth a fuck himself.

Mhhhhmmmmmmmmmm

would watch

creative writer here. you wouldn't believe how helpful Sup Forums is when it comes to creative crowdsourcing.
>pitch ur script ideas
>cast it
>what should the new season be about?
>what would you have done differently?
>what's your guess on (upcoming film)'s plot?

all of these are the spark that creates the flame. sure not every idea is great, but if you sift through the many threads you'll discover 3-4 gems on average. of course the gems need to be reworked, but it's enough to get a writer started. the creative well in hollywood has obviously run dry years ago, explaining the era of heavy remakes, reboots, and sequels, but Sup Forums keeps giving me ideas. literally giving them away.

I hope this never gets greenlit.

Unite the S1 and S2 True Detectives for S3. Then S4 and S5 can have new True Detectives in each season and they can unite in S6. Then the final season can be a tag team match between the True Detective teams.

I would like a small town British setting. Maybe embrace The Wicker Man and Straw Dogs theme.

Literally Ricky Tan?
