Japanese Film

I want to watch a Japanese film, any.

I've only seen battle royale and akira, and I don't mind if it's a cartoon or actual film so long as it's good.

I wanna see something Japanesey

rattle boyale

Seven Samurai is a very obscure Japankino

You should watch Akira, or maybe Battle Royale

Anything by Kurosawa or Takeshi Kitano.

Checked.

>Kurosawa
MY FUCKING NIGGER
He's based

Twilight samurai.

"Little Forest: Winter/Spring" (Junichi Mori, 2015)

"Journey to the Shore" (Kiyoshi Kurosawa, 2015)

all sound like gay shit

Hiroshi Teshigahara's movies are perfect.

Cold Fish is one of my favorite films. I'd highly recommend it.

That or Love Exposure my the same director, though that film is a bit long.

Letters From Iwo Jima, unless you absolutely HAVE to watch something that was directed by someone Japanese.

>He's based
is this ironic?
hes obviously based but literally everyone knows him.

anything by kurosawa

for instance, watch "The Hidden Fortress" and see how much Star Wars stole from it.

The true BASED celestial director is Sion Sono

why the huge amount of anime in that list? (and I'm counting Tetsuo)

Start from Kagemusha, Confessions(2010) and Adrift in Tokyo(2007) and to get a general feel.
Remember that while in the west thrillers are more revered and labeled kino, dramas and feelsy stuff - storytelling adventures are more of the game.

Also try not to be hopeful when they're manga, light novel, or anime adaptations. Those are more often than not quite crap.

Yojimbo
sure it's just A Fistful of Dollars with samurai, but still a good movie

not him but animated pieces are still cinema and those are Miyazaki's.

Miyazaki may be a meme but he's a really fucking great director and animator.

What? That isn't a huge amount of anime, and Tetsuo has nothing to do with anime.

Wtf are you smoking man?

come on, that stop motion chase scene on rocket skates is pure shonen anime.

does anyone know the title of this film that was about two teenagers who kill their teachers daughter who then infects them with HIV and is more about those to lad going insane with both guilt and with the punishment
because i'd recomend that

Terry

Yeah that's Confessions (2010)

"Ran"

Came here to post this.

Also, The Human Condition and Harakiri are good.

Most movies by Studio Ghibli are great. For maximum Japaneseness, watch The Tale of Princess Kaguya.

I enjoyed Cure and Tokyo Drifter.

>No Godzilla 54 or Godzilla Resurgance

Control your quoting nigger.

He's a meme because he's a grumpy old man and a mean person.

Any Kiyoshi Kurosawa or Sion Sono movie translates well I think, I've had the best luck getting friends into japanese film through those two directors.

Harakiri

Listen to these two anons

best god damn gangster movie ever and the best scenes are the characters dicking around on a beach

Executive Koala

I understand his anger, though. Imagine putting all of your love into every stroke, every command and eventually winning awards and realize to see the market you spawned from is now flooded with lazy "modern" animators who can't even be bothered to make chins move with their technology all for a quick buck.

What are Takeshi's best works?
Also didn't realize he's in the new GiTS. Is it good?

What about kung-fu?

I've only seen Sonatine and Hana-bi, but they are both gold kino

I can definitely see why people call him kurosawa's heir. He likes to use specific twitch-like movements or unique gaits to identify characters, and he likes to use stylized, non-naturalistic acting, especially deadpan.

The original GITS is solid but I'm not gonna see the new one, Kitano has no creative input, he's just a token "real" japanese guy in a hollywood shitshow.

Ran and Throne of Blood, if you like Shakespeare.

Watch a seijun suzuki film. Branded to kill, tokyo drifter, pistol opera.

Tokyo Decadence is pretty gud until the final "we ran out of money and/or time" act.

Probably some the hottest scenes in all of cinema.

Watch a samurai movie

Twilight Samurai
When the Last Sword Is Drawn
Hidden Blade
13 Assasins (more action uber violent)
