This video works on two levels.

That was a good film, and Liza Minnelli was really hot on it

This other is also a good classic film

I saw a film from literally 100 yeas ago at work the other day.

Teddy at the Throttle.

Blast from the past.

>AMA about Jennifer Jason Leigh

are you Noah Baumbach? (if so, most of your films are shit btw)

I like the Harold Lloyd films.

say something about the best actor of all time

this is a fun watch

What do you think of Jennifer Jason Leigh's tootsies?

>best actor of all time
>not Laurence Olivier
>not Cary Grant

Best actor is Maurice Chevalier.

One of the best feel goods

You judge, I ain't no foot guy.

That isn't Lionel Barrymore. (Although I do love Humphrey Bogart).

one of my favorite movies ever

I have a small Topper folder, so I might as well post all of them while I have the chance.

...

...

And here's Cary Grant driving a car with his feet while drunk.
The end.

Great movie.

>driving a car with his feet while drunk
well now i have to watch this movie

OK, I know his filmography is amazing, but how the Hell am I just now learning about this?
Cary is the embodiment of kino.

Then I'd also suggest you watch Holiday, with him and Katharine Hepburn.
He shows off his childhood ran-away-to-the-circus training and does back-flips and rolls and goofy acrobatics with Hepburn.

grant was a funny chap. truly great in these moments of absurdity.

they gave me grant related captcha: rogalos thornhill

...

This is a really fantastic movie about going your own way.
It's also a more subtle than you would think satire on rich lives.
Also a lot of acrobatic Cary.

What are some must see noir films?

M (both versions)
Pabst's Dreigroschenoper (not necessarily noir but does include some of the later themes)
The Maltese Falcon
Laura
Double Indemnity
Key largo
Touch of Evil
Out of the Past
the Stranger

These are not bad feet
>he isn't a foot guy

these threads are super comfy :-3

Agreed.

I like this one

About to settle in and watch this comfykino.

What're some good "James Stewart is an alpha male" films?

like this one too. would recommend checking out black narcissus if you havent already. powell and pressburger were the kings of technicolor

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence
It's a Wonderful Life

pic? Suspense is killing me.
He's an alpha male in pic related. Goes around punching people on the streets when he's angry.
Also, he gets Jean Arthur.

what are the best classic hollywood films that are apart of the criterion collection? need some recommendations for the next sale even though its still quite a ways off

Kiss Me Deadly
Sweet Smell of Success
Pickup on South Street
The Big Sleep
Shadow of a Doubt
In a Lonely Place
The Big Heat
Touch of Evil
The Lady from Shanghai
The Set-Up
The Crimson Kimono
Scarlet Street
The Narrow Margin
Rififi
Night and the City
Gilda

Murder By Contract, The Naked Kiss and Underworld USA are all veering more towards neo-noir, but they are just as essential.

The Far Country

The Chiladelphia Story?

...

Only Angels Have Wings, Stagecoach, To Be or Not To Be, My Darling Clementine and His Girl Friday

Never actually seen it, but I'm intrigued nonetheless...

youtube.com/watch?v=9C4uTEEOJlM

thanks buds :)

if you're into bizzare and unsettling films then definitely check it out. there's nothing else quite like it

also its from the director of dracula so thats cool too

>Only Angels Have Wings
Fuck yessshh

What am I in for?

anyone see this? also how2into katherine hepburn

pretty fun movie but doesnt hold a candle to kurosawa's samurai films imo. toshiro mifune is great as usual though

Yes! It's good. Great chemistry, some of their best that isn't Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.

Anything with Katharine and Cary Grant is worth it.
Check out pic related for her first Oscar win.

Sunset Blv
In Cold Blood

I fucking LOVE the whole ending with her trying to cook. The whole movie is great, but even if it hadn't been, the ending would have made it worth watching repeatedly.

If you're ever in the mood for something unconventional. Rooster Cogburn is legit great.
I'm not really even a fan of John Wayne, and only a so-so fan of westerns, but I fucking love that movie.
Hell, now I really want to watch it again.

Samuel Fuller

I'm assuming you've seen Chinatown, but I'll mention it as nobody else has.

Pretty good story desu

This movie is great, is like a less gay version of Top Gun.

What movie????
I might have a hunch.

...

The Big Sleep is nothing compared with the novel.

When are we going to get a good Phillip Marlowe film?

>The Big Sleep is nothing compared with the novel.
Wrong. The film is great and they are two different mediums so comparing them isn't useful. Unless you watch movies for the story, which defeats the purpose.

Too bad the ending is forced and completely out of character.

Its a pot boiler rather than the labyrinth tangle of shadowy lifes and veiled intentions of the novel.

I don't even remember the novel, but the movie is great and Hawks is one of the greatest filmmakers. Whether it corresponds to the novel or not is irrelevant.

My point isnt about the merit of the film itself but that more can be gained by translating the novel faithfully to screen.

Murder, my sweet.

Is there a guide for transitioning into classical films. I've seen a few of the era, but I feel like I'm not appreciating them as much as I could. For example I found casablanca to be a 7/10 despite it being hailed as an all time great and Stagecoach had me bored to tears.

Try something fun like pic related. Absolutely loved it when i re-watched it recently.

They're just movies. You like them or you don't.

It's on my list. I really enjoyed Mark of Zorro so I'm expecting to enjoy it too.

I'm sure you wouldn't enjoy films like Offret if you jumped into them without any previous experience in art house

The practical effects and storytelling in this is way much better than the two following Sinbad films Harryhausen is involved with.
