But things are different based on geography. The 4 states in the image all have coast line, for example. They might vote in some great sea captain simply due to their local connections with marine businesses, when other land-locked states' citizens might not give a fuck about the guy.

The way that the electoral college works is that they are supposed to vote for the majority in whatever voting district they represent. Not every state forces members of the electoral college to do this but most do. The problem is not the electoral college, they are kind of useless middlemen but hypothetically the majority vote SHOULD still win. The problem, in fact, lies within gerrymandering which is arbitrarily changing the borders of the voting district to"play the numbers" in a sense.
As to why the left is complaining about this particular election, it's because that's the way politics works. If the Left had won then the right would likely complain about the same exact thing or something in the same vain. Like how when a sports team gets a foul the fans stand up in outrage and say things like "Is the referee blind!"
you do know that the red stats are the lest educated right? Low education, high percentage of religious beliefs, most people per population on government handouts. low IQ, low population. AND.....Highest level of voter turnout percentage.
If there was no EC, all votes would be worth the same, and the states wouldn't matter. With the electoral college, republicans in California and democrats in Texas do not get a presidential vote at all.

The EC and/or majority should not be used. Every vote should not be equal and carry the same weight. The average American does not know what's best for them. If you think a working-class citizen can govern themselves, you're wrong.
It’s true. But one of the arguments by the states for it was because they didn’t trust the masses. What if they United to elect a horrible candidate. The EC gave the states the power to veto the masses. Meaning it failed in 2016. It’s time to get rid of it.
To be honest, I think you could safely eliminate the "room full of humans" aspect of the EC and just reduce the votes to being nominal, otherwise keeping things as they are.
More an optimization than making it disappear.
