umm i can try spam posting as a thread start might be a very nuace thing relating to an ongoing event either in the site or in the posters life. spam posting in . thread in my case is to bump the post forward or bring about more lurkers who are curious as to why a phrase keeps appearing (some background knowledge is important) also if spam posting with images it's a way to kill a thread (who has already reached feedback loop of posters) faster while posting without an image will bring the thread away from pg 10. Also the drone and repetitive nature of most spam post is easy on the eyes because humans are trained to look for patterns we get high off patterns, so spam posters get a small rush and can justify for reasons above. spam veiwers get a small rush and and more likely to engage, but on the other hand to many patterns can be overwhelming and drive away views, hence why mods are constantly vigilate for spam, it can kill a site
i'm sure you could finds multiple detailed studies on spam posting and social media continuence, but as for why i'm posting on this thread, is because of the small photo about christmas, repetive images that have recognizeable icons and can trigger memories and even effect to do list. by looking at an elf your more likely to plan christmas list and ask for them in return.
tldr: spam looks pretty can kill threads/site can improve visibility
