I just like messing with old hardware. Had a project going about old n64 game sharks and how to get them working on modern OS. (Spoiler it isn't the OS's fault, its a hardware issue on most modern PCs that prevent it from communicating)

Parallel port.
Problem stems from the program used to communicate looking for the port at the wrong address for modern PCs. Some one made a work around but it is slow as fuck. Like 45 minutes to dump 1MB of data off it.

I had to hack together a null parallel db25 cable to get my old ibm talking to my old but not as old gateway. havent used parallel ports for anything else :P
you might be better off using a microcontroller as a gobetween.

Oh I know they do. The work around uses one. Its really slow.
Only piratical way really is to use an older PC to communicate with it.
Or take apart the programs and try and redirect where they're looking at.

it shouldn't be that slow for all intents and purposes the gs should believe it's connected to an actual parallel port and usb is more than fast enough to serialize the buffered data without a bottlneck.

Over parallel it takes about 2 minuets.

pentium ii era machines are best for tinkering with older hw. usb, serial, parallel port, agp, pci and isa all onboard.
