what the fuck was Serbia putting their capital so close to the border?

and where are they now?

...

Wtf it was all furry angel doing!

Eyes set on Vojvodina.

was a hun fort there, google siege of beograd in 1456, when austrians retook it in the 18th century the peace left it in their hands, then serbia broke free later

eh, left the town in turk hands

I'm guessing that's supposed to be Russia?

The historic taoist russian furry empire. That's why the red army arose.

>collapsed due to autistic nationalism
>working

Collapsed because they lost the World War. It was a part of the peace treaty.

Not really. It was doing fine prior to WW1

*due to the eternal Anglo

It could have been glorious: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_of_Greater_Austria

It really wasn't

How was the assassination the A*glos fault rather than Serbia?

AH approaching balkans, eternal anglo craps its pants, looks at russia who is still larping as 3rd rome, serbia is the spacegoat

>How was the assassination the A*glos fault rather than Serbia?
I was talking more about the way they prolonged the war and joined in without reason (other then their perfidy).

Classic Anglos.

>one superior/better armed culture ruling over multiple cultures within their borders
yeah, there's plenty of that sort of multiculture in history

ew

Trialism died with the archduke though, even if the central powers won it wouldn't have been implemented and A-H would have probably still mostly broken up except maybe Austria keeping Bohemia.

Why would it have broken up if the Cenral Powers won? There would have been Imperial German, Austrian and Hungarian troops plus probably loyalist forces from the entire Habsburg Empire to secure it.

A-H was pretty much a dead man walking desu, it has pretty severe internal problems as well as the aforementioned balkan autism. Maybe if the Central Powers won early on in the war it could be saved, but I'm rather doubtful it could have survived for much longer.

It totally didn't work, tho.

and whose fault was it, frenchboi?

haha wow it really worked in the end

>Please don't invade Belgium, don't do that please.
>Invades Belgium
>Reee

it worked for a longer time than most modern European states have existed.

In 1916/17, A-H was a 100% functional, vibrant state with an adoring populace that was by and large willing to defend it to the death, sort of like Imperial Russia.

>implying the UK gave a shit about Belgium and wouldn't have declared war anyway

>it has pretty severe internal problems
it did in the 19th century, not so much by the time World War I broke out. Hungarian nationalism for instance had pretty much petered out after the 1848 revolution.

Why would you care about Belgium? Why would you care about a continental war? Why not simply profit by selling weapons to both sides and keep your young men alive.

Because they had an agreement with Belgium? Because they were loosely allied with Russia and France?

>uncontested dominant world power at the time
>"why would you care about a literal World War which will change the balance of power in Europe forever?"
what the fuck

>loosely allied
UK didn't want Germany to defeat France and Russia because that would have left Europe under German hegemony. Understandable, but it's not like Britain went to war because they cared about the Belgians.

>Why not simply profit by selling weapons to both sides
wew
come home british lad

This is Great Britain. At the turn of the 20th century the were the super power. No agreement one could force them to participate in a war if they didn't want.

nah in the 20th the UK was struggling
would say germany was stronger and probs the USA as well

Trieste is rightful italian clay

Germany and the US were regional powers at the time. I don't think we were even recognized as a great power.

At the beginning of the 20th century most experts agreed that the USA and the Soviet Union were the coming world powers, while former colonial empires like Britain and France would stagnate. Japan and Germany essentially sperged out and started the first, but especially the second World Wars because they wanted to avert said stagnation at the expense of the upcoming superpowers.

"Trst je naš" (that's Slovenian for no)

By 1900, USA was a great power, especially due to the economic strength and the war against Spain. You didn't have a huge military and power projection worldwide yet, but in WW2 it became clear how much these things are dependent on economic power. Germany was a world power, but couldn't match Britain overseas because of the Royal Navy.

We were after the Spanish-American war. Germany sure as hell was a great power at that point. They were the lynchpin of Europe, with Bismarck amazingly keeping everything from blowing up. At least until Wilhelm II came on the scene and fucked everything up with his retardation.
