Is Halloween in the US as comfy as the movies make it out to be? You have lights and decorations everywhere and the streets are full of people in all ages wearing costumes it looks like they put a lot of effort into.

it looks that way because they want to convince viewers that they need to buy all that much useless shit to celebrate properly. a turnip with a face drawn on and a bin bag for a costume are sufficient for halloween.

It really depends on the town that you're in, but these depictions are actually fairly accurate for middle class suburbs. I'd say you probably see less elaborate decoration nowadays than a few decades ago (or so my older relatives tell me), but yeah. People are pretty festive for Halloween here.

Why are butthurt Irish in every Halloween thread?

People being festive, enjoying themselves on holidayd and spending a bit of money on decorations must be an alien concept to someone from a country as dull and poverty-stricken as theirs.

It seems like only white people bother and my neighborhood has had a major case of white flight, so yeah kinda sucks now comparatively.

Non-whites think that going out of your way to take holidays seriously is "tacky" and "white people shit". I hate it so God damned much.

>I conflate virtue with cheapness, so I am haughty about wearing a trash bag for halloween

shut the fuck up pussy

It's OUR festival you yank

I've never seen it in a movie or tv show but the way you described it seems pretty accurate

Lmao no. Halloween isn't really a festival for most of them that's why. Whites don't even know how to celebrate festivals, that spot goes to poos. They know how to celebrate a festival

it used to be, seems to have died out with Generation z though which is sad. At least in my area.

When I was a kid in the PNW halloween was almost identical to how it was portrayed in movies.

Spookiness is objectively the best holiday aesthetic though.

Why this shit happens in America? Haloween looks like a dark Carnival with electro or dance music.

Wrong pic actually.

Not nearly as good as it used to be. Seems to be the case with all holidays now. Probably because the majority of our population now consists of random foreigners and cucks who hate America.

>Whites don't even know how to celebrate festivals
>Nigger/Spic/Brown person detected

Hasn't been like that in a long time.

Why is it never Asians who say things like that? They even get called "white people's privileged lapdogs" by ignorant idiots who've never seen shit like this. Are they the only group that genuinely wants to be American anymore?

stupid poor people like it that way

should just be a harvest/fall festival

Then fuck off to India and join the shit parade or whatever they do.

But there is no point to be a festival in 2017. Nobody under 14 believes in supernatural shit anymore.

It should be only parties like tge movies.

asians can act this way, go to any university. They're just not quite as insecure as Indians

What kind? Where I live they either just keep to themselves or become so Americanized they lose everything.

Asians at my university only hang out with other asians and only speak korean/chinese so I don't even know what they're saying

>Why is it never Asians who say things like that?

Where's the rest of the Asians? And Arabs/ Indians?

>I conflate virtue with expensive taste and can't even appreciate a well-worn bin bag
absolutely philistinian

I love North American bands with Halloween theme like The Birthday Massacre.

They are pretty cool for parties.

I've had a lot of Asians in my classes; particularly ones that deal with Korean history that I'm taking for GenEd. As an example, despite the fact that Japanese colonization is an extremely emotionally-charged subject for Koreans, our Korean professor (and some Korean students) were able to assess that period in history objectively. They addressed the cost-benefit in a very empirical way. The majority of black people seem incapable of covering similar subjects without breaking out into hysterics and making broad generalizations about the descendants of the people who oppressed them. You really get to see human biodiversity in action when you can contrast your anecdotal experiences with blacks and Asians, respectively. I have a lot of experience dealing with blacks, too, as one side of my family is Mulatto/Louisiana Creole.

I've always liked the effort people put into their pumpkins and decorations more than the candy I got.
It's more than commercialism, it's the excitement of a festive nighttime rush.

There are a lot of retarded, overly-cynical people out there nowadays. Moreso with Christmas than Halloween. They can't just enjoy a common cultural phenomenon. They have to pick it apart and complain about shit that doesn't even effect you unless you let it.

pretty sure it's just the one autist in every thread, I've noticed it too

This is what it's like here. You got people whining about Halloween in social media all October long because of muh commercial American holiday, stuffing the kids full of candy, "problematic" costumes etc.

It really depends on where you are, some places do it at like 2 or 3 in the afternoon, others when it's dark out. In general tho this is one of the things movies and shows actually depict accurately.

>some places do it at like 2 or 3 in the afternoon
so fucking retarded. they usually are done by 6 too. Absolutely retarded

what the fuck
usually it's from 6 to 9 here

same here, social networks and comments to news articles attract certain kind of bitter people that love to bitch about holidays in general. muh commercialism, entitled brats, muh evil corporations, it was different when i was a kid, blah blah. maybe they are just lonely.

this sounds about right

well it's a school night and parents are dumb and don't want their kids out late

Shut the fuck up you communist Irishman. Go blow up a car or something

dont need to buy it, maybe rent it only for a day

It used to be like that although not everybody had elaborate decorations. Some places are still big on it. Trick or treating still occurs and people still do decorate but it's visibly different. Most houses are no longer trying to be scary. The decorations are more like Christmas decorations with with Halloween themes (so bright lights but orange and purple colors, inflatable lawn decor, cute monsters, etc.). It's much less about being scary and spooky. Some people even complained that it was too scary for little kids. You'll still some people go traditional.
The biggest problem is that many towns now have curfews, designated trick or treating times, celebrate on a different day, or some such bullshit.
It used to be that most trick or treating didn't start until dusk (kids were at parties, getting their costume ready after school, etc.). People did start trick or treating during the day a few hours prior but it went on well into the night. Now, some places only allow trick or treating during designated times. Others have a curfew where they arrest the kids after a certain time unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. So trick or treating might only last an hour into the night but it's mostly during the day.
Also, there are a bunch of trunk or treating locations (church or town hall), designated Halloween corridors (you can only trick or treat on certain streets), metal detectors available at the police station to check kids candy bags,
I blame the American Taliban, curmudgeons, bitter old people, scared parents, inflexible employers, people who don't think Halloween should be scary, and Americans in general for just giving up on fighting government at all levels.
If this were the UK, you could sum it up as health and safety gone mad for the most part with other people going along because they hate kids and fun.

I don't understand why they chimp out over everything and call shit racist. Do anything they don't like or think is unfair and it's "das raysis whyte boi"

Yeah, especially if you're in a small town and your town has a strong sense of community.

My wife's Taiwanese friend was just telling us how much she loves Christmas as a secular western holiday.

I wish you would have put it a bit earlier, walking around in robes at the start of november is fucking cold.

Money money money

Good post

My town is like that right now. Also lolis and milfs walking around.

Definitely depends on the neighborhood. I moved around a lot as a kid (military family) and some neighborhoods put more into it than others.

Your pic is how some really look though yes.

Minorities/spics ruined it. Also women turned it into a slut-fest.

In white towns it is still just like that.

Thanks alot pic relateds, you fucking trash.

Some of the attempts to essentially regulate Halloween are stupid, but some of them have merit, too. Setting designated trick-or-treating hours frees people up from feeling like they have to sit by the door with a bowl of candy for hours on end, because they know exactly when people are going to start and stop showing up.

>is x as x as the movies make it out to be?
no
it's always no

But the UK IS like Children of Men, tho

No. That's stupid and kills the spirit of trick or treating. People used to just put up a sign that they ran out of candy. It was very simple and worked very well.
