Best sci-fi of the past 10 years?

>scarlet jewhannson
nothing happens: the movie
pleb: the post
>PRETENTIOUS: THE FLICK
District 9 is best scifi in the past decade and a half my guy
It was definitely well done, for what it was.
But most of the movie was kind of rehashing the same idea. Yeah we get it, she's collecting specimens. Move on.
But it wasn't about that.
didnt say that's waht it was about, but she did that a lot
Best sci-fi of the past 10 years?
>Star Wars episode 7 TFA not even close to being considered
Thanks J.J. you jew motherfucker
A very powerful masturbatory experience if Scarjo is your waifu
In the first half, yeah.
The Fountain
The Zero Theorem
The Circle
>collecting specimens
She spends the movie learning about humanity you plebian.
>Star Wars episode 7 TFA not even close to being considered
>Thanks J.J. you jew motherfucker
I unironically thought it was better than Rogue Shit.
Oblivion
Cloud Atlas
Ex Machina
Interstellar
Gravity
Arrival
Take your fuckin pick senpai
by "most of the movie" you mean the scenes where she's trying to pick up a guy? yes. she uses the same approach--you're supposed to see how mechanically she's acting here. you're supposed to be a little freaked out that she's experimenting, innovating, and improving on her predatory technique. as though she's merely getting acclimated to her new suit. these scenes establish her as something that 'acts human' without really being human.
or maybe you just mean the scenes where she's submerging them in the goo that makes them go pop? sure, that happens three times. but again, her attitude toward each victim is different, especially the final one.
i don't think the movie needs to dazzle you with new and weird things. it's a lot more grounded than that. if anything it's focused on the development of a conscience.
And a good deal of that learning happens while she seduces these specimens.
I get all that, and that's why I said it was well done. But that's not enough to be best sci fi for me, friendo.
>The Fountain
I love you, user
damnit, I still haven't seen The Fountain and I've had it downloaded on my computer for almost 10 years now
Easily my favourite movie ever, and I do not say that lightly. It is phenomenal by all aspects, but mainly the direction; it's flawless.
You need to watch it first and then again and again to appreciate the genius that Aronofsky is, because he truly is one. Especially the way he uses light to convey his characters emotions. Also all the scenery in the space scenes is not cgi but actual chemical substances filmed in a laboratory. Truly his life's peak work. Such a masterpiece.
The Fountain is disqualified from within a decade now
Looper
It's going to be better than Blade Runner sequel and Aliens remake I promise
>It's going to be better than Blade Runner sequel and Aliens remake I promise
Not like that's hard to do.
...
Her
Black Mirror
I hate most science-fiction movies but I liked this one. I hope Cosmatos' next thing turns out well.
>Best sci-fi of the past 10 years?
a close second behind upstream color
chappie is third.
why does Sup Forums jerk off over every pseudo-intellectual, vapid, empty shell of a movie as long as there's very little dialogue or substance and it solely relies on visuals and sound? Are you that desperate to be considered intelligent or cultured by anonymous people online?
Pure unadulterated garbage, 2/10
BTBR is that
UTS isn't
certainly wasnt this shit
Bladerunner will put a stop to that.
I want to believe, but blade runner has jared leto.
Blade Runner is the original pretentious meme sci-fi flick. This one is a new meme built on a meme-foundation.
ok, bud
The fountain is more fantasy than sci-fi.
And it's more love story than fantasy.
>scenes is not cgi
It's what made the movie good.
Ant-core flick at best. Well performed and well shot, but pretty poorly executed concept.
this
Whats he currently working on?
>implying a love story can't be at the heart of a rich sci-fi or fantasy narrative

Wow an actual goodpost on Sup Forums nice one user
That's not Arrival you fucking capeshit pleb
I don't know anything beyond that it's being produced by Elijah Wood's company.
You haven't missed much. It's not a good movie.
Most boring, overrated sci-fi of ever.
Oh no sorry. Muh deep character study and the human condition!
>Not The Lobster
Nope, the film you're describing is Arrival.
Please tell me what the fuck ant-core is because google doesn't seem to think that term exists.

Absolutely not.
>Elijah Wood's company.
Based.
I know his dad was a director, but I was impressed at how strong the movie was from a first time director.
They're a great trilogy. Based Nolan
yes. by miles.
Strongly shit
it's not great but still better than everything else
the first two are kino but the 3rd one is a straight up meme
felt like a chore watching it
I want to believe, but blade runner has Denis Villeneuve.
Since AI and 2001.
I know we're all anonymous here but what drives a person to admit they're proudly an idiot?
No, it's not bad but there are many things that are better than it, including but not limited to Inception.
