Sticking the icecream in the microwave induces the risk of chemicals running off the actual carton into the icecream itself. The only real proven safe way to go about it is by heating up the scoop. Usually 30 seconds will warm it up just enough to slice through the icecream like a cake, but don't be afraid to heat it up for up to a minute if you feel it's better suited that way.
