^pleb opinion

Badlands is Malicks best film
if you think pompouse pretentiousness and wide-angle lenses is better than a great film with joy of creation and vitality, you've taken the wrong way and you know it

The Last Waltz should be top.

This. Even The New World is better than his last three films.

The Thin Red Line > The New World > Badlands > To The Wonder > Days of Heaven > Song to Song > Knight of Cups > The Tree of Life

fixed that for ya ;)

One day I'll watch that other one.

Literally everything about this post rustles my jimmies

Or in Terrence Malicks case, worse to worst, LMAO!

you should

I dunno, I like most of his films but the only one I thought was especially great was Inherent Vice. I can't imagine it living up to the hype around it,

I literally watched it two days ago and still think it's one of the best shit ever. I know the hype is high, but try to give it a fir chance. It has not much to do with his other works, has a different tone and pace, but the style is there

Saving Private Ryan > Catch Me If You Can > Jurassic Park > Schindler's List > Lost Ark > Last Crusade > Jaws> E.T > Close Encounters > Jurassic Park 2 > Hook > Bunch of other shit I've never seen or have forgotten.

Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to his others yet, but I intend on seeing them all. These four were pretty great, although I'm surprised people think so highly of Days of Heaven and Badlands.

Both are very well filmed technically but the actual story and characters are so-so.

Magnolia > PDL > The Master > TWBB > Boogie Nights > Inherent Vice > Hard Eight

Inherent Vice was good but it didn't really do anything for me. Hard Eight was good for a debut but not much more, very clear he's still trying to find his mojo there. Boogie Nights and above are all excellent though.

Of what I've seen of Bergman

screenwriter but w/e

Synecdoche NY > Adaptation > Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind > Anomalisa > Being John Malkovich > Confessions of a Dangerous Mind > Human Nature

Mostly agree, think the delivery of Spotless Mind was > adaptation but the writing wasn't.

Yeah I can agree on that. And purely writing BJM is probably better than Anomalisa, but Anomalisa was such a unique experience with all it had going on that I have to place it slightly above it in this list.

>Adaptation that high

I actually had to read the "source" material in a writing class and then we watched the film.
>wtf I love self referential metakaufman now

Synecdoche NY was a pretty clear jump from that

Terminator>True Lies>Aliens>T2>The Abyss>Avatar

I'd swap ITMOM w/ Prince of Darkness DESU, otherwise perfect

Prince of Darkness is one of his masterpieces, it's just not the strongest script. ITMOM was kind of a clusterfuck. I'd stick Precinct 13 up there with PoD though.

I love both, I just feel the performances were better in Madness, and the overall atmosphere was more consistent.

Can you explain why you didn't like Basterds? That opening scene is incredible, and I thought the rest of the movie was passable at its worst. What threw you off?

Well Sam Neill is pretty fantastic generally, PoD was more of a 'hard' sci fi horror attempt. The implications are the real scare factor, less so on the spooks. Carpenter really does manage that well it's just... kind of silly when you take an objective look at it. Can't fault the direction for the stupid script (also him). Hard to judge Carpenter on any single feature of his films since he's usually a one man show.

Post your list then, jabroni

Yeah. As I said, I love both, just Madness has stuck with me more. I feel that it probably has to do with the pacing. Right when it feels things are starting to happen in Prince of Darkness, it just kinda stops, whereas Madness just never stops once it starts. I guess it just comes down to what type of movie you prefer. One that focuses on one character and his descent into madness, or more of a focus on the world and events

>Maybe getting Kids today.
I know you're a teenager so I'll give you a pass, but Kids is by far the most noteworthy film he's been involved in.

>Teenager

Huh.

thanks for the insight, pleb.

Kids was a landmark film, maybe if you were old enough to remember the impact it made upon its release you would understand.

everything Korine has directed is better, if you weren't such a pleb you would understand.
