The entire approach is too predictable. There is no shape that will fit all the Man Utd attacking players in. The right thing to do would be to play an Ancelotti-style 4-5-1 and let them all float around but Mourinho does not believe in giving that much power to the playing staff.

No it isn't. Makelele sat permanently. In a 4-3-3 the three midfield players are responsible equally for attacking and defending. The Mournho teams with Makelele/Essien/Lampard were just a traditional 4-4-2 central pairing with one more player sat in front of John Terry.
They rarely played with two wingers after 2005. It was never a classic 4-3-3.
