creds for the Crywank
douchey sounding post - I don't use spotify because 1. Most of the stuff I listen to is too obscure / old / weird and foreign to be on spotify, and 2. I don't like the idea of commercializing listening to music
>I don't like the idea of commercializing listening to music
When was this not commercialized?
Nice, Kim always drops bops Petras woo-ah!
Music has been heavily commercialized for a long time, I'm not arguing that, but the simple act of casually listening (at least to me, I've had a passion for music my whole life and have been releasing my own albums for 15 years) seems insulting to me to be placed on a platform that doesn't let you keep any of it, and could be gone at any moment, and covers it in ads unless you pay them money. It's like a perversion imo
It means small bands that I never could've heard about 15 years ago can be my favorite bands though.
There are so many bands with 1 album and like 100 listeners from a different country that I've found. Thatd be impossible in a different time.
These independent artists also own their music more than bands in the past have I imagine.
And that is a great point, I can't hate on that because it's true, the question just comes up to the creators in all cases "at what cost am I achieving this?"
I can say from having my music on spotify for years that as time has gone on, they've become more and more unwilling to help out their artists, and also barely pay anymore
Do you think you'd make more money in a different era?
