Vietnam never really had a proper national language before the current alphabet
Chữ Nôm 字喃 was the closest but it was only used by poets and scholars mostly. otherwise educated people wrote with Han characters taught by the Confucian schools.
I think it would be nice for it to return for cultural and historical reasons, but the current alphabet is better in most other cases even if its not as pretty.
real issue with Vietnamese aesthetics are the diacritics which make it hard to use the nicer typefaces

why diacritics and tones are important, but Viet has like 9 tones so its super autistic compared to Mandarin.
no matter how some might feel personally (I'm learning Han characters out of personal interest) Vietnam is unlikely to adopt them again because of the bad blood with Chinese imperialism.
