Russia and Turkey

Not ONCE did Erdogan or ANY Turkish official or even media suspect Putin for the failed coup, even though there is an apparent air of amnosity between the two nations.
He however many news sites, and even government sources indirectly, have blamed the West, CIA, even Obama for the coup?

What's going on here? Are Erdogan and Putin good pals now?

Being friends with ERdogan is like being friends with Gollum desu. Fine, until it suddenly isn't.

My guess:

Erdogan is trying to make the country flip from NATO ally to Russia ally. He's using the coup (which he may have staged) as a vehicle to complete this flip and solidify his own power.

Why Russia instead of NATO? I have several ideas.

1. Erdogan sees how loyal Putin has been to Assad. He wants that kind of loyalty. Erdogan knows that NATO would not back him if he violated western liberal principles. But Putin would, because Putin believes in realpolitik.

2. Erdogan has decided that the US and Kurds have become to close. The US recently signed defense agreements with Kurds in Iraq and has been aiding Kurds in Iraq and Syria. Russia has no close relationship with Kurds.

3. Erdogan saw what happened in Ukraine and is worried. If there as a euro maidan-type protest in his country (and many Turks, 30-40%,consider themselves European) he could be forced out. He needs an eastern power to provide him with a political buffer between his county and the EU.

4. Erdogan thinks Russia and Assad are going to win in Syria. He wants to curry favor with Putin as early as possible. He needs to do something drastic because relations with Russia were poor due to the shoot down incident.

thoughts? I'd prefer input from RUS or TUR posters

Russia has been talking shit about Turkey buying IS oil, treating IS fighters, and more, way before the plane shoot down.

I can't see how Russia could be new buddies here without jumping the retarded logic shark; backstab city considering how much shit has been thrown and the real proxy war between the two.

Russia has been covertly helping Kurds in Turkey.

I think the UN or some other organization already warned him that the coup is not an excuse to abandon the constitution.
You are 100% right

1. yes

2. yes

3. yes

4. kinda agree (Erdogan's official position is that the shoot down was done by US backed Gulenists in the military who want to destroy the Turkey/Russia relationship. Might be true)

You're more or less correct, I think the above is what caused the CIA to try to rush the coup in the first place - Turkey's just too important strategically to lose it to Russia.

There's definitely going to be either regime change or there will be a war, the stakes are more than high enough to warrant it

sounds like the EU and US is very much losing their shit over whatever went down / failed to go down properly. War soon.

...

>Russia has been talking shit
Exactly they were just talking shit

We all know how many of the airforce were on the side of the coup (jets flying all over Istanbul and Ankara)
It is quite plausible the US-backed Gulenist factions of the Turkish air force ordered the attack on the Russian plane, and then Erdogan had to pretend to support to not seem like things are out of his control
Obama however came out and praised Turkey for defending it's borders

Why do you think Erdogan apologized to putin out of nowhere 2 weeks ago?
a change of heart like that does not randomly happen.

the second turkey doesn't have nato protection, russia will make constantinople great again

In fact, the mayor of Anakra claimed the pilot who shot down the Su-24 was a Gulenist.

It's consistent with Erdogan's desparate attempt to distance himself from the shootdown and curry favor with Russia.

even if turkey doesnt back nato , lots of states would interfere because of the strategic locations and usa bases in turkey. basically ww3

Well, Turkey actually did that. Because its government was under heavy US influence. After breaking apart with Gülen Erdogan lost the support of the Gülenists in his ranks who he himself had helped rise to power since 2003. The cleansing of the government which is now taking place is also a signal to Russia that Turkey is distancing itself from the US/NATO. Erdogan must still be kept under watch as he's a filthy rat and opportunist but the corruption scandal and coup arranged by Gülen seem to have scared him shitless and he's moving in the right direction for once. Since Erdogan has a great deal of the public's support he might still prove to be useful for secularists.

kgb probably has erdogan by the balls.

Even speculating about allowing other country to provoke several thousands of your military officers into rebelling is admitting your complete incompetence as a ruler.
Turks also should shut up about that guy in US, it's laughable.

Easy, blame everything of that on coup supporters and pretend Erdogan wasnt involved.

On topic of Russia - population will not immidiately warm up to Turkey just because, but we are ok with realpolitik and making any deals with it that benefit us

I agree.

Kurds are key issue because Amerifats have been supporting them hardcore and thats' a no no

Americans support Kurds in Iraq, we support them in Syria. Either way there`ll be no concessions made to Turkey about Kurds there - people will close eyes on fight against insurgency inside Turkey, but other than that - no.

The only slight difference in positions might be US could be pro-kurd state, seeing as the Iraq Kurdistan is pretty much independent already - while Russia is against Kurds autonomy/state in Syria - we still support them with aviation in their operations agains rebels/isis. Not sure about weapons - only if through 2nd hands of Syrian military.

>Americans support Kurds in Iraq

we also support kurds in iraq. syrian kurds are a problem and amerifats were supporting them.

russians main goal was helping assad, not kurds.

Including Maple niggers input, you fucking nailed it.

It seem Russia and Turkey now friends.
