I'd just rather just cut out the middle men, so to speak, and have them paid...differently. The only arguments against it are financial, quality of care, etc. And we are in the advantageous position of being able to look at other nations who are already doing this successfully to see what works and what doesn't.

The reason why everything is crazy expensive is two part: insurance and patents/regulations.
Insurance (much like loans) gives people access to infinite money so that they can afford things which they normally wouldn't. Because you can spend money you don't have, it doesn't matter what the cost is --- and if the buying party doesn't care about the cost, the seller can charge whatever they want for it. So, if 'nobody can afford aspirin at $100', it doesn't matter if the price is $100 or $100 million... you will need insurance to cover the balance, as many do. This explains the housing bubble (loans) the medical bubble (insurance), education bubble (loans), etc... Pretty much when you have people giving away free money (that you pay back over a lifetime, and likely wont) you generally are ruining that industry.
The second part is patents and crazy regulations. There are many things that are commonly available that you just can't sell people because they are patented or companies pay off the fda to stop competitors. For instance, you can kill warts with candida (super common, likely growing on your skin right now)... but good luck going to a doctor that will do that. It's a better treatment than freezing (cheaper, quicker, safer, etc.), but corruption has kept that and many many many other things away from the public at large. This creates mega-monopolies which can have the sole means of a cure and charge whatever they want.
Combine these two things and you get unaffordable healthcare.
In contrast - you let anyone manufacture whatever drugs and offer whatever services they want, and you let people pay with money they have in their own pockets... this means MOST people can afford the goods, and they have more options/competition to choose better and/or cheaper options.
Look at it like iphones... if you had the same monopoly with the same 'you can have free money to have one, just pay it off over 30 years', it would result in a similar way.
I don't particularly disagree with any of that. The system is broken. It's taken decades of abuse and exploitation to get that way, but here we are. It's time to start making changes. Big, scary, changes that will some day result in a health care system that works, instead of a cash machine for a few that denies needed medical care to far too many people.
