It's a bit more complicated, bible-thumping wise. Thing is, the sunday school teachings doesn't really encompass the whole story. Humanity was corrupted by Lucifer, who in turn refused to bow to Adam when Jehova ordered it. By letting in that bit of pride in himself, Lucifer became corrupted. Again, God could have made it impossible, but the dumbass likes freedom too much, so he created reality with the possibility of evil. Anyway, Lucifer then had Eva gobble forbidden fruit, leading to knowledge and sin and so forth. Humanity was cast out. The reason God didn't just expunge all evil was that it wouldn't be fair to good human beings.
Mortal life is a mere blink compared to eternity, so the suffering here is not worse than say, taking a math test. We're exposed to be possibilities of good and evil, and God is pretty lenient with whom he decides to let back into paradise.
Might be silly to believe. I can't tell. I'm ignostic. I don't have a position when it comes to faith. But I see the reasoning God was using when he set this all up.

Think of it like a test, or a game. Why isn't a test made so that it cannot be failed? Because then it wouldn't be a test. The whole idea of all powerful is also a problem. The bible doesn't specify what all powerful is. The only parts talking about how powerful he is says things like "with God, anything is possible." God's fan club have then interpeted this as "God is omnipotent." But there's no actual claim to that affect from either God or Jesus (the only actually important people in the whole bible, the rest are barely NPCs. They're more like props).
All powerful might as well mean "more powerful than anyone else." But doesn't necessarily mean "so powerful that he can do anything regardless of premises."

We have explored one planet, in one star system, in one star cluster, in one galaxy, in one galaxy cluster, in one super cluster, in one galactic filament, in the known universe. We have explored it roughly 6000 years out of the 4 billion that has passed, and the 13.7 billion that has passed for the entire universe.
All we can see and measure is made of leptons, and baryons. The two main particle systems for us. Those comprise 25% of all matter. The rest, the majority, is dark matter - a substance we can only detect through it's gravitational influences. We KNOW it's there, but we cannot observe it directly. And that all pales compared to the dark energy, which comprises 60% of the entire universe.
So to be frank, humanity knows portions of the 5% of the universe we can observe, and we do not understand all of those 5%. To draw the conclusion that there isn't some other structure, unknown to us, would be to be scientifically dishonest.
I find it more honest to say "I don't know" and "I don't believe strongly either way", than take a position when I don't know wtf is going on.
