Four months ago, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. Doctors told me that this particular type of cancer is usually diagnosed at the morgue. Now, I have managed to finish treatment, and even though I am officially in remission, my chances of getting another cancer are in the 80-85% range.
I really feel like I may pass out at any time, and just die with some weird Sup Forums thread open on my browser. This scares me a lot, so I try to spend less time on the NSFW boards. I also take showers on a daily basis (instead of weekly) and I wear clean underwear--just so I can look more presentable for whoever walks in to find my dead cancer-ridden body.
Sad, I know.
Nobody on earth should have to think about things like this, and especially not during the Christmas holiday season. Yet, this has been my daily thought process of the last few months... with one exception.
About two weeks ago, I was walking home from the hospital during a small snowstorm. It was a lovely evening, and the snowflakes were big, enchanting, and dazzling under the streetlight. It was truly beautiful to see, and it instantly reminded me of the time I was a kid during Christmas.
You see, that magnificent snowy scenery brought me back to my childhood. It brought me back to the once joyful and radiant kid I used to be, and to the holidays I used to treasure. It reminded me of how happy and excited I used to be during Christmas Eve--restlessly going to sleep knowing that I would unpack a heap of gifts in the morning. And that I would spend the next few days playing games in a cozy Spider-Man pyjama, all while watching snow steadily fall outside.
Sadly, all of this is now gone.
The truth is that Christmas (and all of its magic) decided to leave my life for good, and never come back. Goodbye... Au revoir... Hasta luego... Auf Wiedersehen... Arrivederci. I haven't celebrated it for many years now, and probably won't this year either.

I mean, who would want a tired cancer survivor at their Christmas party? It would only bring negativity and sorrow--two things that I am now very familiar with, but also two things that I wouldn't want to impose on others.
At this point, you're probably thinking "damn, this guy is miserable... what a shitty life". Well, you're right. I have poor contact with my family. I have no friends. I am on invalidity and can barely afford rent/food/transport. I have nearly 90% chances of getting another cancer while I haven't even recovered from the first one. But... there is still ONE thing--one last ray of light--that keeps me motivated to stay alive:
The upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077.
Indeed, the only thing that holds me back in this world is the possibility of playing this game once it comes out on the 16th of April 2020. Listen, when you have no family, no friends, no job, and no energy left, then you realize that video games truly are heaven sent. But the game itself is only an extra. The real pleasure comes from having a pre-order, and impatiently counting days until the release--just like you would count days until Christmas when you were younger.
Unfortunately, my current situation doesn't allow me to buy luxuries such as video games. In normal circumstances I would just skip a few meals and buy whichever game I want. However, this is now impossible because I need to eat food in order to recover from the treatment I underwent. And not getting enough nutrients is like putting one foot in the grave.
Now, the Cyberpunk 2077 collector's edition costs $250, and I would have dreamed to have it. In fact, if I could, I would have payed that price with no hesitation just to support the devs for producing quality games. However, it seems like it's out of stock everywhere (with good reason), and it seems like that was sadly a limited offer only.

Nevertheless, Steam still offers the basic pre-order for $60. That's basically the price of a restaurant meal for two. Just imagine what this means for a quick second.
It means that you have the power to skip a two-hour evening at the restaurant, and instead, use that money for a much better purpose: to fill someone else's life with zest and enthusiasm. Don't you think it's more satisfying to spend 60 bucks on gifting a stranger a pre-order he dreams of, rather than paying that same amount for a de-frozen piece of steak and some dry and tasteless potatoes?
I think so too, and that's why I am asking you to show some kindness during this holiday season, and gift me the Cyberpunk 2077 pre-order on Steam. It would not only make me immensely happy, but it would actually give me a good reason to wake up every day, and it would bring excitement all the way up until release.
Yes, I understand it's a pre-order. I also understand that pre-ordering games is not good for the industry, but...
This is CD-Projekt Red we are talking about--the only legit studio left. The only studio that still has passion for the products they make. The only studio that doesn't inflate hype with marketing, like Ubisoft, EA, Activision, etc. In fact, the hype for this game was actually created by PEOPLE, because they were baffled after playing The Witcher III masterpiece.
Now, tell me...
If you had to pre-order a game. Would you rather give your money to a legit studio trying to create a real piece of art for its customers, OR... you would give it to the one that has been shoving paid DLCs and awfully incomplete games down your throat for the last 10 years?
That's what I thought.
And that's why I am particularly comfortable asking you for the Cyberpunk 2077 pre-order on Steam. I am also comfortable asking for it, because I know that my specs are above the predicted system requirements.

And I am comfortable asking for it, because I've watched EVERY SINGLE bit of gameplay--multiple times--and am in utter love with this game.
So, if you believe that spending 60 beans to make an ill stranger happy for the next few months (and give him hundreds of hours of gameplay upon release) is money well spent, then I would kindly accept your gift. If, however, you feel like that is too much asked...
Then simply turn to any of the begging third-worlders in this thread, and buy them a game that they will never even play, because they're only here for the gambling thrill of seeing someone bite into their spammy "plis giff any game my frien" posts.
This being said, I would genuinely like to wish you a good holiday and a merry Christmas.
