That being said, they didn't hate them. Since their system was so decentralized there was no real concept of a modern German state, so they were viewed as mostly irrelevant compared to our dealings with the French and English.

All modern British populations, including the English, are of predominantly Celtic ancestry. Roman, Germanic, Danish and Norman settlers never accounted for a major part of the genetic stock of Britain. In England specifically, however, the Germanic Anglo-Saxons and Normans quite substantially affected the culture, especially language and government.
