Nootropics - An Unfair Chemical Advantage or Natural Selection at Work?

Nootropics have been studied for over 30 years, with many of them having been approved in countries known to have braindrain in areas of mathematics, science, and engineering.

There have been bills put in motion to make nootropics illegal in places such as Australia, England, and other places in EU.

Nootropics, by definition, are neuroprotective substances that improve cognition, prevent/treat alzheimer's, and in some cases, completely eliminate fatigue.

Nootropics, such as modafinil, were developed by the military as combative measures against fatigue and anxiety, and are given to soldiers regularly.

Why is the government cracking down on ways for us to improve ourselves through modern science? Are nootropics necessary for a highly competitive future? Is there a Flowers for Algernon dilemma with nootropics?

>adderall is not a nootropic

Is modafinil and arnafinil the best ones? I've been taking moda occasionally with great results but I've been wanting to try some other comparable stuff

LSD > any "nootropic"

>arnafinil
I'm assuming you mean armodafinil? Currently, they're are the formulations of the -afinil nootropic, the two mentioned and adrafinil. They're all classified as Eugeroics. Armodafinil, purportedly, being the stronger eugeroic of them all.

3rd time for this thread today already?

Spamming is bannable.

SAGE in all fields.

im looking not to crash my car fag

Is Fenibut considered a nootropic? I know it's like an anti-anxiety/anti-depressant that's unregulated in the US

LSD would be disastrous for daily consumption and Nootropics are meant for continuous administration. In Russia, nootropics are even endorsed by their version of the FDA as daily supplements for mental gainz.

Yes I meant armodafinil. It's been awhile since I had it. I did a comparison between that and modafinil and found that modafinil made me feel a lot better over the course of the whole day with minimal side effects

You don't need to take LSD daily, another reason why it's superior to "nootropics"

I don't think you understand what people are using nootropics for

It's a discussion that's getting plenty of attention in the UK, especially with how you have media outlets there sensationalizing these substances as "study aids for drug addicts".

The long track record of efficacy and safety for nootropics, like piracetam have been studied for over 30 years for there to be any type of response so uncalled for that it needs to be banned to procure in certain countries.

Any of these not guaranteed to give you a heart attack?

Let me put it more clearly for you, LSD isn't used and even in microdosages, as a study aid, social lubricant, or antidepressant.

LSD is a recreational drug. Nootropics are a neuroprotective drug.

You take nootropics in order to be able to work the next day after LSD kept you awake the whole previous night and you're still in the trip headspace.

Any affecting noradrenaline/norephedrine is going to raise your blood pressure. Do you typically find yourself about to have a heart attack when drinking coffee? I've read plenty of anecdotal user cases, along with lab tests, that show the tolerability with most nootropics and no incidents of heart attacks.

Again, nootropics don't have strict regulations as they aren't known to come with any adverse effects, which is why you can order phenylpiracetam and rest assured you aren't getting poisoned like you would if you had an amphetamine. The question that should be asked is why aren't nootropics favored over the pharmaceutical industry, when they have just as much research and efficacy?

>Nootropics are a neuroprotective drug.

Kinda bullshit though.

Nootropics have perceived benefits. They are usually just something that speeds up your mind or improves memory. They're not protecting anything.

LSD, Shrooms, Cactus --- these are all shown to do things like cure depression for a year following the dose (in a safe, controlled setting).

I've tried a lot of drugs, including nootropics like piracetam, theanine+caffiene, bacopa moneri (sp?), nicotine gum

No drug is very useful, but one dose of LSD cured a mild case of OCD related to hand washing.

Caffiene and Nicotine are by far the most addicting ones I've ever battled with, and I was a heavy drinnker who mixed benzos in half the time

Really? I've been microdosing 2-3 times a week, sometimes daily, for the last 3 years, and have had nothing but brilliant effects.

Tell me how it's disastrous.

>perceived benefits
You're wrong and a simple google search can show you that you're wrong.

>Caffiene and Nicotine are by far the most addicting ones I've ever battled with

Why is this? Every time I start drinking tea or coffee it eventually escalates to taking 1-2 grams worth of caffeine every single day. Even after quitting and when the withdrawals are gone, I crave the feeling of a good caffeine rush more than anything else in life. Weed, amphetamines and alcohol have never caused as strong cravings even after prolonged abuse.

Perhaps it has to do with how innocent substance caffeine is perceived as?

Where can I buy them and what ones are the best?

this

>You're wrong and a simple google search can show you that you're wrong.

gwern.net babe

racetams make you *Think* you're doing better, but tests fail to show it

It's all about what you're out to achieve. There are certain tools for certain jobs. I view noots as multitools, as they hit different areas, but still get the job in mind done. Microdosing LSD is obviously, unpredicatable, so there's no measurement in how productive you're going to be at the end of the day. It's like putting your brain on a conveyor belt, you don't have control over where you're going.

check out /r/afinil or /r/nootropics

i ordered a batch of modafinil from some indian website. got through u.s. customs fine. not sure about u.k. or aus though

I've read Gwern's data on his noot page and didn't see that at all. Regardless, he still takes piracetam as part of his daily stack.

Some of it is definitely genetic. I've plugged my genome into maybe 5 different SNP directories and know I have a very strong reaction to caffeine compared to a normal person. I feel like a flying robot on one cup and it escalates fast.

Now that I'm taking pure caffeine instead of smoking (my... 10th relapse?) I notice pure nicotine has a similar speedy feel, but it's a more synthetic feeling and less anxiety-inducing.

I know alcoholics who recovered but struggle to kick caffeine.

The layman science is that caffeine receptors grow quickly, so you need more and more for the same effect. Quitting leaves them all wanting more and it takes a long time to recover.

I can quit caffeine, just sitting through blinding headaches and suffering even if I've only been on it for a week. Nicotine is a different beast. I can go a year without it and carve it every day. The day I take it again I feel normal. I think the addiction is "permanent"

Modafinil shouldn't be called a nootropic since it actually works.

Most others seem to be placebo scams.

Also source on these "bills".

Oh shit. That's because half of what I say are lies and I never expect anyone to read or care. lol

Let me look for an actual source

But you really do with a microdose. I consistently feel more alert, more happy, more creative and full of initiative. It's like amphetamine but without autism or horrible physical side effects.

If you overdo it, it becomes chaotic. But the entire point of microdosing is that you don't overdo it, that you take just enough to feel it without tripping.

For an example close at hand, whenever I microdose, I end up not shitposting on the chans all day. If I sit down and browse while microdosing, I realize it's a waste of time almost immediately, and spend my time reading a book, exercising or socialising instead.

Here's some shit about LSD microdosing you faggots

Okay check this out

examine.com/supplements/Piracetam/

>According to a meta-analysis on human studies, piracetam improves general cognition when supplemented by people in a state of cognitive decline, such as the kind that comes with aging. Though piracetam may be a useful supplement for improving longevity, it offers limited benefits for healthy people.

>Healthy people supplementing piracetam do experience little to no cognitive benefit.

sauce on the main claim:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2387665

But it does show some mental health benefits and a small, possibly insignificant effect on backwards recall

Author thinks other racetams might be better for nootropic effect

>treating your body like a toilet

having a healthy organic diet works far better than any of this shite. every person i've known who takes these are nervous depressive messes. you should not mess with your rain chemistry

First time I took noots I remembered every dream I had for a couple weeks

Then it kind of wore off so I stopped taking them

LSD analogues are stimulating -more than Mush or MDMA- and can put anyone not comfortable with overthinking into a horrible head space. Microdosing gives a Methy sensation.
Piracetams -Aniracetam, Phenylpiracetam, etc- require Choline intakes to avoid headaches. Piracetams' effects given a high dosage will be felt by the body like a strong stimulant.
Best Nootropic is Noopept, it gives the same visual and sound enhancement as weed, but it does not require additional supplements and costs nothing.

Would you mind giving a hint to a fellow doctorate on where to buy that stuff? i often feel like not doing anything and browsing the net on a free day.

See here babe I accidentally replied to myself

FUCK. SEE HERE BABE I JUST REPLIED TO MYSELF TWICE

So the same thing that means all research chemicals are now banned in the UK?

Since modafinil is a prescription med, doesn't that mean it's exempt?

Are you actually gonna get arrested for possession? I was under the impression it simply meant they couldn't be sold.

>drugwise.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Psychoactive-SubstancesAct.pdf
Huh, okay, it seems possession is still okay but importing is illegal.

> The person responsible for this bullshit is now our Prime Minister

but I was previously a nervous depressive mess, and that's why I take them

it doesn't cure, but it can let me get some work done. Modafinil is a reasonable antidepressant.

None of these fucking work. Daily 30 minutes of cardio and a decent diet and a decent schedule are the best nootropics you'll need. modafinil and adderal do work, the rest can go into le trash

I've been taking piracetam and noopept for years now. Everyone smart enough to want to be smarter, should take them.

There's a subreddit called Darknetmarkets, full of degenerates and scum, but it has a neat list of up-and-running TOR stores for what you're looking for.

Should be easy finding domestic suppliers in Germany, thus avoiding customs.

And do check out some guides on proper microdosing. If you take too much, you'll trip, and that's not productive at all. Making a solution in water/vodka and measuring your dose by the milliliter is the easiest and most precise way.

Thank you very much.

>it doesn't cure, but it can let me get some work done.
I understand your pain but trust when I say that antidepressants don't work. They treat the symptoms of depression but not the underlying cause. Whatever is making you sad is what needs to be addressed, not the feeling of sadness. The pills are a dutchboy putting his finger in the dam and the second you get off them you become more depressive and nervous than when you were on them. I already watched my aunt and uncle go insane because of them. Please don't be another casualty

In my opinion Modafinil works reasonably well and there aren't really any side effects. Adderall also works but is obviously bad for you

I had the same feeling with nicotine for the 1st year, then years 2 and 3, the cravings got less and less until they were virtually gone. I eventually relapsed, though, because I wanted to see if I remembered what it felt like.

I had to quit caffeine cold-turkey because of a heart problem.

Shit was hard, though I'd still give the hardest-to-break award to nicotine.

Shit was harder to break than cocaine.

Thanks doc

I only use it occasionally desu, for example to get enough motivation to start a new project.

>In Russia, nootropics are even endorsed by their version of the FDA as daily supplements for mental gainz.
Modafinil is banned in Russia is alternative to cocaine. Stop spreading lies.

Which ones are best for debilitating anxiety?

The problem with phenibut is tolerance builds very quickly and you can't take it often due to addiction.

debilitating? Really?

In that case, probably nothing.

Modafinil I find gives a small confidence boost, being some kind of stimulant. But other people seem to require sedative type things.

nothing really works well though desu

I didn't like their effect on me. I felt less attached to everything.

Not in a significant way, but things that should have made me angry didn't anymore. For example, I read a news story about a black male torturing a white family, and I didn't feel any tribal anger whatsoever. Instead, I had a "we need to all get along" response. I also noticed a small drop in my libido.

If anything, I felt slightly feminized.

After a couple of months, I stopped taking them. Maybe two weeks after that, I was back to my regular self.

How is the noopept after years of dosing? I did it for a couple of weeks and didn't really feel a difference. I still have a shit ton laying around though

Chemically-clean guy here.

I feel terrible for all of you.

I've never smoked, nor drank nor put any of this shit into my system.

100% clean and clear mind. Sharp as a razor.

Enjoy a shortened lifespan, plebs.

An extra 10 years of life on a planet that's 4.5 billion years old

Hi, Joe Rogan

Any of these effect the GABA receptors at all, if so which ones?

modafinil turns me into an asshole when someone disturbs me when im doing something

>he believes the authoritarian propaganda

I was chemically clean until age 26. I'm a better person for trying a few of these substances, in moderation and with self control.

Also, you very likely have taken medically authorised chemicals before, many of which have side effects.

only the best noots are banned, then sold big big pharma $$$.

And none of those years will be spent hungering for a clarity which should be naturally experienced.

I truly feel sorry for people born needed chemical fixes in order to operate normally.

Maybe next life, chums.

you just stated that LSD doesn't improve your cognitive function while nootropics improve memory/neural connection. it's a neuroprotective drug, but I'm wary of it until long term effects are evidenced.

Been popping L-Theanine + Caffeine for the past few years now

It's mostly a feeling of calmness and sharpness of the mind, no coffee induced ""anxiety"" and slow bodily movements.

They're massively overrated.

The only time I've gotten anything out of modafinil is when I had 400mg in one go and the next day I had the worst headache.

I'd rather stick to caffeine.

>authoritarian propaganda

In contrast to what, big pharma propaganda?

At least one of those is a healthy, natural existence, free from chemical slavery.

Want to choose which?

I'm like that without Modafinil. The modafinil for me, makes me self assured - I gain the ability to politely/confidently tell somebody I'm busy, rather than being a stressed cunt about it.

i've only ever tried modafinil, it made me feel more alert and talkative but would later cause head-splitting headaches and made my piss have a strong chemical smell to it.

maybe i got some fake stuff but i've not touched it since. i've tried 5-htp too but all it seems to cause is intense & vivid dreams/nightmares which have me waking up in the middle of night covered in sweat and panting like hell.

The opposite with me. On modafinil I felt like I had a fever at the end of the day and had slightly lose stool and a higher pulse. Also so anxiety that got worse toward the evening.

On armodafinil everything was fine, mood was slightly improved most of the time.

anybody have experience with red monkey?

redsupplements.com/product/red-monkey/

The piss smell means it's real. You probably got dehydrated which caused the massive headache. Try taking more water throughout the day next time

For about a month, I accidently took ten times the recommended daily dosage of noopept. Is there likely any permanent damage?

Surprisingly enough, modafinil seems best for what it is actually prescribed for - excessive tiredness.

If I'm well rested already, the (productivity) benefits are minimal.

phenibut and baclofen hit GABA receptors. pretty good for anxiety imo

Don't forget to read the instructions. Phenibut will fuck your liver if you take it for too long without breaks.

where do you get it bro? reteta/net ?

I've been microdosing for the past month as well, but I think I've built up a slight tolerance.

How much do you take? I use around 5ug (160ug dissolved in 100ml of vodka, gonna switch to distilled water). Of course I can't be sure about the potency, however the blotter/solution seems too strong for my initial low-ball estimate of 100ug.

interesting. is modafinil a diuretic? i drink a ton of water every day but still got headaches, without fail.

May be a spam thread but this shit helped me get through both my associates degrees and bachelors.

I took:
Piracetam
Aniracetam
Oxyracetam
choline

Adrinifil

And Modafinil from modafinilicat

I cannot over state, this was needed for me to pass college math shit like calculus 1 and 2.

I never got headaches but I did get way more obsessive.

Don't take it all the time and make sure you are healthy.

I remember some weekends when I had homework.... I'd get on alex jones after having Modafinil.....

I'd lose like 12 hours, and wind up on the far end of youtube watching reptilian videos.

Be careful with modafili and make sure you are productive and not unproductive.

Btw guys the best nootropic is Semax.
(because its befits are perm)

Jews don't want their braindead slave populations to get any ideas. What else is new?

The number one problem I see with serious students in my uni is coffee abuse. Coffee is not supposed to be taken everyday. I figure these people have attention problems which they try to fix with caffeine, or they want to feel on "their mental prime" every single day. But they are literally over-burning their brains and developing tolerance by increasing adenosine receptors. The tolerance is the Opposite of the effect. The main metabolite of caffeine is another xanthine, thus it is another adenosine antagonist, and it has a half-life similar to caffeine: 7 hours. This means that it takes almost 2 days for you to clear caffeine from your body, but the initial rush is short on most of addicts because their tolerance goes up in the First hour. People are literally drinking themselves into a bitter stupidity.

There are other problems: Xanthines are far from neuroprotective, they are toxic to birds and dogs because these animals can't metabolize it fast enough; The dose of adenosine for medical use is 20 mg, yet we consume 100mg of an antagonist; There are already 3 studies linking 100 mg of daily caffeine with stimulant induced psychosis.

Have taken modafinil. It's effect was noticeable but not extraordinary. I just felt a bit more alert and awake. It's a very bad idea to take in the evening; you will not get to sleep that night. So yeah take it if you need to spend all day studying and need to not get tired/distracted but don't expect it to turn you into Einstein.

>Nicotine is a different beast. I can go a year without it and carve it every day. The day I take it again I feel normal. I think the addiction is "permanent"
Used it for years then quit cold turkey for a year before i started using it again for a few weeks before i quit again. Now i've been of it for months without any problems.

Same thing with coffee, alcohol etc. Must be genetic trait because i can't say i have very strong willpower or motivation.

It depends how much you take.

I've taken smaller does of around 50-100mg before with little-no effect, both in the short-term and in terms of side-effects.

But I mentioned above, I took 400mg once, and the next day I was basically bed-ridden because of the pulsing headaches.

You're a fucking idiot and degenerate trying to justify his drug addiction.

I cycled 4 months on one month off for the last.. almost five years now. I love the stuff. Learning comes a great deal easier while I'm on it. Two weeks isn't enough time to experience the benefits. I really notice it once I start a new cycle.

Please help.

what are the long term side effects?

Do you combine it with choline? What's your dose?

>tfw you've been made

>what are the long term side effects?
Eternal hellfire

You become impotent

Why?

I feel like I'm basically an idiot, and yet I managed (with a shitton of effort and a TI-89) to get through calculus 1 and 2. I don't understand this chemical doping meme at all. I mean I watched 'limitless' too, but it's just a movie... a fairy tale. In real life screwing with your neurochemical balance can have nothing but bad side effects.

>needing drugs to pass calc 1 and 2

Modafinil made me really sleepy.

>Is there a Flowers for Algernon dilemma with nootropics?
no because none of them kill your brain.

>muh meme pills

These things dont do shit. I had modafinol and some other magic meme powder bullshit and it was the biggest waste of money I ever spent. Go ahead and take them if you want, but this shit is a joke and a gigantic waste of money.
