Do you like Dune and what is your opinion on the movie?

Saw the movie before I read the book and loved it, after reading the book I can say the changes were very weird but it's still very enjoyable

Boring as fuck.

if only David Lynch had been allowed to go full on Lynch mode this could have been special. overall its a mess involing too many cooks and I understand why Lynch had his name removed from it .

Perfect casting and costume design.

Let down by some inexplicable story changes and patchy SFX.

>Do you like Dune?
No
>What is your opinion on the movie?
It's absolute shit

I thought it was a pretty bad dune movie but really good sci-fi movie. I enjoyed it. Dune has so much inner monologue that they cant do in a movie so it makes it hard to translate well.

I am currently reading the first book and I think the changes are ok. I would have liked to seen more of the political stuff in the movie but you cant fit everything into a film

Can you eleborate on Lynch mode? I have only seen this movie of his but I know some of his other films which and from those I think it is odd that he made Dune. Then again if he didnt really make Dune it explains it

I absolutely agree though I think the SFX were great. Some of the chroma keyed shots where a bit so so but if you look beyond that then it is a nice visual movie

What is so bad about it though? Even the soundtrack is great. I know it isnt Jodorowsky's Dune, which probably would have been far more epic, but Dune is still a well done adaptation of a classic sci fi novel

Dune is unfilmable. The book chewed up our greatest living American director and spat him out. Herbert gave him an A for effort tho.

>Do you like Dune and what is your opinion on the movie?

It's a terrible adaption of the novel but a great movie nonetheless.

I enjoyed the porno flash game.

Didn't realise Leto is the captain from Das boot

link pls

I'm still trying to get through the first book

just finished part 1 of it. Sadly I don't have enough time these days to really focus on reading

When in doubt, get the audiobook, listen to and from work

One of my top ten all time.

>t. There will never be another megabudget film as based as Dune 81'

I completely agree. It's hard to imagine anyone else in those roles, especially Paul and Jessica.

It's a beautiful mess. There are a lot of things that go over perfectly and a lot that goes over terribly. For instance I absolutely love the costume and set designs, but hate what they did with Arrakis and the Fremen. They looked like coal mining ninjas, and the desert was just an ugly orange nothing.

hmm youre right. Thats good advice. Thank you.

Don't mind me, just best girl passing through

Have anyone seen the 4 hour version? I have the extended 3 hour version but a 4 hour version should be existing. I have also seen the theatrical cut and I tend to like that versions prologue more but the one in the extended version is 9 minuttes or lore which is cool

>Have anyone seen the 4 hour version?
wow that sounds amazing

>It's a beautiful mess.

This.
Weirdly awesome, with some weak parts. But awesome nonetheless.

I am also trying to get hold of the 4:3 extended TV version. My current extended version has been cut to fit widescreen and frankly it just looks zoomed in and weird shot composition. There is added some tilt now and then to get the whole 4:3 frame in a widescreen shot but still. I wouldnt mind bying a huge collecters box set that had all versions and such.

Here's the thing, the movie was great. Saw it when I was a wee lad, Read the book for the first time nearly ten years later in 97. Loved the book. Loved the second book and the third and so on. Hated the prequels Loved the Hubert and Anderson Sequel, even though many hated it. I have the DVD of dune, bought it almost twenty years ago. It's in bad shape but I love it still.

No it's not. Were I given the chance, I'd make the best movie you ever would see. But it'll have to come on the butt end of the series, like way, way back from the Final Book Written by the Wonder Duo of Herbert and Anderson. It has to Do with Erasmus and Duncan.

Great film, not so good adaption.

Ditto

De Laurintis wanted a two hour movie and Lynch wanted a longer more faithful cut. Apparently they clashed over shots to use and everything. Some people said some of the shots were quicker than others. That's because Lynch was locked out of editing. You have millions of miles of film that you shot and most directors kepty a book of which stock of film they felt best represented their vision. And then you have the studio who gives a shit about long shoots and estalishing shots and only want the money shots. That's why it's alan smithee.

A patrician film.
