So we had a discussion about this last night and essentially it went like this

>HURR DURR he is evil because his inventions killed millions of people
>HURR DURR science is evil since it can be used to kill people
>HURR DURR airplanes should never have been invented because they can kill people
>HURR DURR humans are more important than science

ok

He killed millions

Sounds like you got memed newfriend

Cool

I don't care

And? it's bot thread made by marketers picked up by children of Sup Forumseddit

>humans are more important than science
they are
you do not srsly disagree with that?

Human civilization > Science > Random humans

>individuals are more important than science

This fucking carebear generation makes me want to leave this timeline

KILLIONS

he did nothing wrong

He followed his passions and he made airplanes

ok dr mengele

desu only your tribe/your people are more important than science, the rest can die

The first time I saw this I cried so hard that it physically hurt.

Isn't every Miyazaki film about how technology is the devil?

I think it's Miyazaki's most important film
And considering that he was part of the generation against the US Japan peace resolution, it makes sense that he would want to portray the ingenuity behind Japan's war power

However, he's smart enough to leave a grey line between what is innovative and potentially destructive

It's more layered than that.

His dreams was to make planes so he could fly. He made planes that go really fast like he dreamed.

A corrupt government used his inventions for war, but that doesn't make his intentions and progress in the field mistakes. It's like calling Einstein evil for writing the theoretical basis of atomic bombs.

I remember reading reviews when it came out and thinking how far the point of the movie must have flown over the critics' heads.

Unless it's of, or relating to, flight.

Was the actual inventor of the Zero this idealistic?

>"""Millions"""
I had no idea he designed the B-29 superfortress

He's basically just Miyazaki's avatar in this movie.

/thread

bump

He killed millions tho

I wasn't into it for most of the movie, and then the romance stuff at the ending happened and it floored me

He turned from Green Party to Nationalist after realizing anime was a mistake.

People who talk about "I-IT SUCKS BECAUSE HE KILLED MILLIONS" miss the point

The film is about the contradiction of Miyazakis love for Nature and Airplanes (Anno's character=Miyazaki irl)

All those points are correct.

He was a selfish prick.

Should we just go back to being hunter-gatherers?

You know you're random human right?
I'm sure you would volunteer for those unit 731 experiments
Sub 50 iq cretin

Maybe. As long millions don't die in the process i guess

Thats not an arguement.

I'm ok with millions of dying so that airplanes can be a thing.

I guess we should never invent new things ever since it might kill people?

>its better to have a lower quality of life so that people can't die

>he killed millions

HURR DURR

This was a good movie but the main character was never like this in reality. Just sucked the magic out of it for me a little bit. It's still worth a watch if you don't mind anime.
